Well how would you fix the product?
Go back to pre-Goodell everything. Do away with all the anti-hitting rules, get rid of the Thursday Night games, go back to kickoffs from the 30 etc.

They're overprotecting QB, which Dilfer would no doubt agree with if he were still playing today.
And the receivers.
Which makes playing the positions so much easier.
So I don't what to hear anymore nonsense GOAT arguments.
Stats in a phony league is just that.
Plus and regardless of that...the product just isn't as enjoyable in thie pitch and catch 7-on-7 flag football league.
We've been given a glimpse when Peyton faces a moderate example of what it used to be like on a weekly basis...the 2004 playoffs.
The NFL was so perturbed. Irsay forced another "re-emphasis" and that was the another nail in the coffin to what was once football.
Steroids in baseball gets so much lip service regarding legacy. But this crap and the easiness of playing certain positions pales in comparison.

That would be fine for the fans, but I'm also mindful of how big and fast these guys are compared to olden days. Remember in the 1990s when every star QB got knocked out with a concussion every other game? No one wants to see backups either.
The rules on hitting WRs are probably bad--and might even lead to more knee injuries--but maybe the QB rules are reasonable.

Honestly, people are just going to have to get used to it. And if you want to blame anyone, blame the players that played before today's current stars. I'd venture to guess that Dilfer, and those that agree with him as former players, are a vocal minority. However, they do not represent the vast majority that is/was a part of a lawsuit to the league. The only way the game could change, is to get around the legality of the situation, and I don't see that changing any time soon.

As long as societal plebs continue to spend their entire weekends watching, nothing will change.

That is a terrifying, yet accurate picture.

This is true. For anyone to say these guys today aren't as tough is asinine. They are tough as hell.
Since many of you here are Saints fans, you probably saw over and over the touchdown run by Zac Stacy.
What struck me was Cameron Jordan chasing him. I was amazed that someone that huge could run like that. If you missed it, check it out.

I can't even tell you the last non-Saints game I sat all the way through
I can barely sit through Saints games honestly
How do you honestly expect me to sit through 4+ hours of mostly two assholes talking and commercials?
shite is boring

Dilfer played in the 2000's He retired 6 years ago.
The game has changed dramatically since 2000 when he and the Ravens won the Super Bowl. A team built like the 2000 Ravens can't win a Super Bowl today because of the way the rules have been constructed over the past 13 years.

When it comes down to it, the best team still usually wins.
How many "high-powered" offenses have won the SB in the past 10 years?
2 or 3 that come to my mind. 06 Colts, 09 Saints, and the 2010 Packers.
Sure those teams have great QB's, but they also all had really good defenses, (or played great defense in the playoffs).

No one is denying that the athletes of the today are better than the athletes of yesteryear, however, I highly doubt defensive play has regressed so much that offenses are gaining all of these yards on skill alone. The rules set up to protect the QB and the receivers have really opened up the offenses, thus making it more difficult for a defense to actually defend.
The only way you are going to stop a Peyton Manning or a Drew Brees-led offense nowadays is if you get a turnover or they make a mistake on first down. Other than that, they are guaranteed at least a field goal on every drive.

If you don't like it then stop watching. It really is that simple. No one is making you watch. Stop crying.
Posted on 12/17/13 at 7:47 am to CocoLoco
I watch very little. I've watched less and less over the last several years. Not crying, just agreeing with Dilfer.

Your whole Niner fan protecting Montana's legacy by incessantly whining about QB stats in every thread act is one of the worst on this site. Give it a break
