It's been basketball on grass and pitch and catch for awhile now.

No fear.

Can't defend the receivers. Can't touch or hit them.

Which is why anyone with a brain doesn't take all these passing records seriously.

You get 1/4 of the pressure QBs used to face on guys today...Brady, Brees, etc...and suddenly nothing works...see Seattle and last week's game.

The best games the NFL has had the last few years...were when the Giants and Niners met...and some Seattle/Niners slug-fests - when getting a TD was a huge deal...each yard gained meant something.

Carolina/Niners this year was refreshing.

Marching up and down the field Arena style is a crappy product.

And it's not because suddenly we live in an age where every QB is awesome.

Hell, 17 of the Top 20 QBs on the all-time passer rating list...started their careers 1998 onward...

It's an era that made good QBs look great and average QBs look good.

I agree.

LSU/Bama comes to mind. People thought it was boring in 2011 regular season and real football fans thought it was one of the most intense games ever.

2. Eliminate Face guarding pass interference. As long as they do not make contact they should be allowed to face guard or not have to look back for the ball.

Another good one. Most of the time this is called on underthrown balls bailing out the offense.

okay, now I'm convinced.

I'm going to quit watching the NFL.

I was waiting on one more edgy type of statement like this to push me over the edge.

good thing we've got 35 bowl games starting this Saturday.

all hope is not lost.

The only one of the blubbering idiots on ESPN's NFL coverage that's worth a shite IMO

what dilfer really wants you to believe is that he could have been successful under the current rules...he would not have

The only rule i hate is the defenseless receiver one.

1. i don't understand it
2. there is no consistency with how they call it
3. It basically sounds like, you must allow the receiver to make the catch before touching him...

what a stupid fricking rule

I always took it as you can't hit the receiver with your helmet or in the head/neck area while he's making a catch. Maybe I'm wrong.

but i've seen it called on guys just making regular contact while the player is defenseless...

when your officiating is so deplorable, and that is really the NFL's problem, then it impossible to get a rule like that right

Sometimes I feel like I don't understand a rule, only to find out the fricking official doesn't understand the rule...garbage.

I will say this in dilfer's defense...every year under roger goodell i find myself less and less excited about football.

Maybe that's me growing up and changing priorities, maybe that is the shitty things he has done to the game, maybe that is the perception that I have that the NFL lacks internal integrity...maybe a combination of the 3

Anyway, I can't quite nail it, but I'm liking the NFL less and less...The Saints were 9-2. I would have been obsessing over a mark like that 6, 7 years ago, now I am just like "eh"

I found myself jumping up and down with excitement that I won my fantasy playoff game, moments after the saints just got their arse handed to them. I was pissed all game, but I'm not sure if that was because my fantasy team was losing

tldr; the point is, the NFL is moving in the right direction under goodell...and he gets so much credit, but everything he is credited with, is really Tags

say what you want about rozelle, goodell, etc...Tags made the NFL the monster it is today without question.

absolutely. I remember Jenkins getting flagged vs. NE for this bullshite.

he hit a guy going over the middle. He lowered his shoulder and hit him right in the chest( with his shoulder, not his head) just after he caught the ball. The WR dropped the ball.

the play was on a 3rd down but since Jenkins was flagged NE kept the ball instead of having to settle for a FG. Of course they scored a TD a few plays later..

The NFL has been watered down for several years now.
