FL's #'s are also extremely construed due to the # of people that claim they live there for tax purposes when they in fact don't. Also add to that list the # of vac homes etc.
The first thing one of my friends, who is on the PGA, did when he signed his first endorsement deal was buy a very reasonable home in FL and to claim residency.

Loco has a point, many snowbirders claim Florida as state of residence when they maintain two homes

Damn near 20% of Florida's population is 65 or older

SEC schools in all of the top 7 states....go figure
A higher % of black population has something to do with it of course. I imagine 70% or so players in the NFL are black.

Seems like LSU should have won the National Title a few more times. They have 91 NFL players and have no other college in the state to compete against for players.
Alabama has 52, but also has to split that with Auburn. Mississippi has 38, but has to split that between Ole Miss, MSU and to a lesser extent Southern Miss. Florida has 184, but has to split that between Florida, FSU, Miami and South Florida.
Georgia should also be competing for more National Titles than they do.

I would guess 40% of California's population is Mexican who have never touched a pigskin

The State of Louisiana has fewer people than Metropolitan Atlanta.
Hell the total populations of Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana is barely higher than that of metro NYC. I really wish there was a video game that really would capture how big the island of Manhattan was. Seriously folks get on google maps and get this shite happening.

For example: Tejas and Florida have pretty similar state populations (they have a couple million more, but they're both up there around 20-25 million). Tejas however, has something like 5x the number of high school students that Florida does......yet we put just as many kids into the NFL & D1 (if not more)
Did you read the OP? Texas has 7 million more ppl than you and 30 more NFL players

so why are we using per capita when women don't play football?
also i wish we could tally up snaps played by players from each state
and i guess it goes by what high school you went to to determine what state you count under?

I've always thought Ohio has too many D-I college football teams for a state that size. What is it? 8 or 9? Louisiana has 5 and that's too many.

Ohio is the 7th most populous state.

So, why do they have more D1 schools than Calif or NY?

total state population doesn't mean anything fwiw....
You couldn't be more wrong. The chances of the players being distributed among the various positions improves. And since you need players at all of the positions size does matter.

it'd be a truer picture if we divided NFL players by the male population aged 20-40
