re: Tom Brady cements himself as the GOAT with a Super Bowl win right?

I'd also tell you that Jordan is the GOAT against a LeBron James if James went 6-4 in his career of the NBA Finals.

Going six times and winning six times is better than going ten times and winning six times.
Rock solid.
Rock solid.

I don't even think I could put Montana in my top 3.

Montana is good but he did have Bill Walsh as his coach
Posted on 1/18/15 at 9:30 pm to SwaggerCopter
No people don't realize that. Same argument gets made in college hoops all the time. So and so is a better tournament coach than so and so because he's never lost in the first round. Then you realize that's because he missed the tournament all together.

Nope. I really do not see how you can argue Brady as the GOAT. Montana is a slightly superior version of him.
Posted on 1/18/15 at 10:36 pm to 4LSU2
Montana is not the best qb to ever play. The Super Bowl record is played out. He did nothing exceptional (as far as a qb skill set) and with a stacked team at a time where you really could build dynasties, they weren't as successful as the modern day Patriots. He made it to less championships and Super Bowls than Brady and is nowhere near him in any qb statistical category. Sorry, football has existed since the 80s and there have been some of the best qbs to ever play the game since then.

Or perhaps Bill Walsh had Montana as his QB?

System QB. Fortunate enough to play in the West Coast Offense when no one had figured out how to stop it yet.

Who had his best season (statistically) the year after Walsh retired from football. He won a Super Bowl, almost appeared in another, and took another team to its lone AFC Championship Game appearance in the post-Walsh era of his career. Plus they had been running the West Coast offense since 1979. If teams hadn't figured out how to stop it by 1989, there obviously was something more to their success.
Anyone who says he was merely a system QB either: 1) is an idiot or 2) never saw him play. There's a reason why NFL.com has him listed as the #1 greatest QB of all-time.

Give Marino, Elway or even Boomer the talent and coaching on that 49ers squad.
The GOAT playing for the 49ers was #80

It doesn't hurt that he had #16 and #8 throwing to him while he was at San Francisco. He also had a pretty good QB in Rich Gannon throwing it to him in the twilight of his career.
Three very prolific QBs throwing it to an All-Pro WR usually makes for a beneficial relationship.
Also...Montana already had two Super Bowl rings by the time Rice showed up in the Bay.

quote:If we are talking about fantastic we have to subtract Brady's first 2 Super Bowl runs. He had 1 good game out of 6. He was horrific in some of them.
4 Super Bowl wins 6 Super Bowl appearances total That's pretty damn fantastic.

He's an all-time great

He made it to less championships and Super Bowls than Brady and is nowhere near him

He's a 2-time MVP. And he undoubtedly deserved both of those awards.
There are 8 quarterbacks ever who can say that (I'll count Rodgers).
He's developed into an all-time great. He was a much better quarterback from 2006-2012 than he was from 2001-2004. He was young and still becoming the QB we saw in his prime.
Brady is an all-time great. To say he isn't is really silly. He's an all-time great without even looking at his postseason resume.

If he loses three in a row I think it is safe to say he is the biggest choker of all time. A lot on the line.
Although I disagree... Yes, a lot on the line.

quote:Whoever said this, gross. He is what he is. Which is pretty damn good and at times amazing. But if he loses in 2 weeks is he a choker? Hell no. Is he an all time great for what he did in his first 2 SB runs? frick no. He is what he is. And he was horrible in the first 2.
If he loses three in a row I think it is safe to say he is the biggest choker of all time. A lot on the line.
I'm not a Brady hater. I honestly admire him. Let's be honest, he seems like an awesome guy. I just can't wrap my head around the love he receives at QB. I don't mean to get lazy on you but you know the stats. You know what he's done and what he hasn't done. IMO he's a damn good QB who got lucky as frick to be a part of the Patriots. Somehow it's turned him into a legend.
I'm a damn Bucs fan. And Brady's accomplishments aren't gonna knock off some Alabama guy. I couldn't care less where Brady ranks. But dammit he's overrated as hell IMO. The Jeter of QBs(in my lifetime, probably others who fall into this category). I'm fairly confident I could make tons of QBs who would/could have been equally as good or better than him if they were in his shoes.

Where should he be ranked?
I don't see any conceivable argument that could keep him outside of the top 10.
