This is the biggest issue. You can tell they bump games that have no interest outside of the two teams playing in it to Thursday.

So far we've had

Jags v Titans
Atl v Tampa

And tonight Browns v Ravens

Nobody is watching that shite

I don't think it's commercials in the slightest. Sure I'd like less, but the NFL feels like a well-oiled machine after you've suffered through a 3:30 SEC game on CBS.

I think less penalties as well as just letting these guys have fun. You've got characters and personalities in your league, let people be them. Embrace them instead of trying to suppress everything.

I can name one:

"Injury time outs" that begin moments after the injured player has already run to the sidelines under his own power.

This x 100000... it's the most agonizing broadcast in Sports. It's sucks too because they have the best picture and sound quality of all the major broadcasts including ESPN.

It is slow as shite, but there are some extenuating circumstances that don't happen in the NFL. Like clock stoppages after first downs, 20-minute halftimes, and the fact that the 2:30 game doesn't actually begin after 2:45. And then you add in the extra TV breaks in CBS broadcasts (like commercials after touchbacks), and it's bad. But there are other factors that add up. ESPN games will go right into commercials after extra points and change of possession. Pay attention next time to how long it takes CBS to go to break. It's like 45 seconds after the extra point sometimes. They're almost ready to kickoff sometimes and they're just going to the break. The whole broadcast is so damn slow and inefficient, but the product is much better.

The aTm/Tennessee game was the last straw for a lot of people. That was ridiculous. But some people forget that it was an overtime game, and there was what seemed like a 30-minute break when they thought that Tennessee player was paralyzed. But I'm not excusing CBS by any means. I remember the 1st half of the LSU/UGA 2011 SECCG being like 2 hours long. And 5 years later, it's still not any better.

It won't get an any better. They know they have a built in audience and will draw massive ratings on the top SEC matchups of the year.

Unless they agree to make less money and have fewer advertisers which goes against capatlist logic.

Do you think that if a team is in the middle of a back-breaking 18-play, 9-minute drive, that coaches instruct players to fake injury because they know the network will jump on the opportunity to make up a lost commercial break because the drive ate up too much gametime?

It already happens in college basketball. Teams now always take timeouts 10 seconds before the TV timeout because it gives them a chance to take an extra-long break if they're tired.

Commercials are a necessary evil in big-time sports, but when teams start using them to create a strategic advantage that otherwise wouldn't be there, I have a problem with that

I mean, when you have a timeout after the touchback--what happens when the home team just scored to take the lead late in the game? The team's fired up. They have all the momentum. The opponent's scared and on the ropes. The crowd is insane and LOUD.......and then you have to wait 7 minutes for the next offensive play. It can't help but have an impact. The players and crowd lose their energy. The team that just gave up the lead has time to recompose and strategize. That doesn't happen anywhere else but in football games that are televised.

Those Thursday games need to go. If they're going to insist on having them, because of the revenue they generate, then the need to create a second bye week so every team gets a bye before their Thursday game. They can go to 3 preseason games and not tack a week onto the season.

Why do teams need a timeout after a TV timeout?

Saw an article on the NFL viewing down from a major news outlet. They gave bullshite reasons and cited the NFL as the people they asked for the list of reasons.

I emailed the guy some actual reasons with the scenario as one and the protesting as well. He emailed me back in no time and agreed. When he asked the NFL this they danced around it and pushed the other bullshite reasons. He said he would relay my email to his contact. Pretty neat to get almost immediate feedback from a writer of a major news outlet. I sent it expecting nothing ..

It isn't for everyone but my enjoyment of football games I want to watch has improved since I started recording them. I don't sit down to start watching until about 90 minutes after they start. I fast forward through every commercial and the halftime show and finish around the same time the game ends in real time.

Illegal contact = 5 yd penalty, replayvthe down

A lot if times the QB isn't even looking at the WR when illegal contact is called.

It's very simple, they've diluted the product through overexposure. Thursday night games, Sunday night games, Monday night games, London games.

Then you get the whinning from the megamillionaires because you were pushed down on the field...mix this in with softening the game up and you've got a recipe for sliding ratings

Well that's just not true. Plus, some college games can take 4+ hours... I'm looking at you 2:30 CBS games.
