Damn, the Lafayette/LC district has 1, 4, 5, 6 and 13 in 5A?

How is that even possible?

As an Ascension Parish person, I notice that Dutchtown goes to Barbe and St. Amant goes to Acadiana.

Those were the exact same first round matchups in football. Bizarre.

the same reason the 3rd best record in 5A is seeded 24th...

SWLA, North BR, and the Catholic League are 11 of the 16 host teams in round 1

Interesting bracket.

Locally, I'd say both Chalmette(26) vs West Monroe(7) and Shaw(30) at Zachary(3)have real good chances to upset.

Shaw has had a disappointing season relative to expectations but not a team you want to see in 1st round if you are Zachary.

BM, Hahnville looks like a close, competitive low scoring game.

HC and Rummel split this year. HC draws Catholic league opponent in round 1 for second year in a row.

Jesuit and Destrehan look like solid favorites in round one.

Have not seen much of the northshore teams.

i'd consider us the biggest x-factor in the bracket... we might have IMO three solid pitchers who might be enough to get us to Sulphur, or we might have a team who just dominated a district that doesn't even hardly play baseball and would be overmatched against a team that does

Were they a district champ? Do you think a district champ should play a home game instead of giving the 4th best team in Lafayette a top 10 seed?

yes and i'd be being a homer but yes

the power rating system is flawed bc we have to play some of the teams we play. if we beat West Monroe maybe they'll agree with us lol

but then again the old system you'd have #54 Bonnabel in the playoffs and either #5 Barbe or #6 Sam Houston would miss out

You just described last year's King team perfectly.Undefeated in same district last year. Team with good pitching that would have given lots of teams trouble in a best of 3 but went to Barbe round one and got smacked around. Now West Monroe is no Barbe but playing in a district that weak is not good for you. Being challenged makes you better obviously. That said, going up there and winning would be great for Chalmette. Would get Jesuit round 2.

or we might be at home... either way round 2 will be local

i thought we played enough decent teams before district like St. Thomas More, Brother Martin, Newman, St. Paul's, etc. but that was half the season ago

i didn't think Grace King ever challenged itself enough to build a decent power rating where, sure they might not host, but they could have had a winnable game in round 1. instead they got Barbe.

but yeah next year's district will be worse than this one... maybe we'll only play them once each instead of twice. that's 16 games potentially with maybe 4 of them being even decent

2-20 this year, last year they were district champs at 21-9 and the #32 seed, the years before that they were 18-7 and 16-14 with the Catholic schools in the district and missed the playoffs barely both years

Unlike football, higher seed always hosts in baseball. Win and you are AT Jesuit or AT Ruston.

oh damn any insight on why they dropped off from 21-9 to 2-20? that seems drastic

Seems though it wouldn't be difficult to guarantee Chalmette a 16 and push down everyone between 16 and Chalmette's original seed one notch.

Didn't something similar happen in softball? I heard Chalmette was given the 32 as district champs even though they didn't finish in top 32. At least that's what someone told me.
