I agree, I also don't like the use of bunkers in the middle of the fairway on 4 holes that make them play longer, that is poor golf layout in my opinion. Taking out risk reward sucks in the golf world. Narrow the fairway, put bunkers on the sides and make it a tight squeeze, but I want to see players be successful and fail not based on dumb luck. I do love some pot bunkers, players these days are so good at getting out of traditional bunkers, that I like to see them struggle to get out of pot bunkers.
6 and 17 and 14 are bad about this.
ETA: I know this is links golf and this is how the open is supposed to be played, but I still don't like it.

It is risk reward. If you know bunkers are in play, it forces guys to use shorter clubs off the tee to set up a better approach. I don't see the problem with guys not being able to use driver off every tee. If you think you can clear the bunkers, then fricking do it. If you fall short, there's your risk/ reward.

-3 to -5 will win. The rough and the greens are just too much even without wind. If wind is a factor you are looking over par easy.
Hit 14 greens get up and down on 3 of the 4.
He can 2 putt 12 holes 1 putt 2 then add the 5 missed green putts. There is your 31 and he just shot -1.
