The reasoning? There's a supposed reluctance to expand because it could further pressure the Longhorns to give up the Longhorn Network

Texas being an a-hole per usual

The thing is, if a report from the Cincinnati Enquirer is accurate, there may be some truth to the stereotype -- with a super majority of eight schools needed to vote in favor of expansion from 10 schools, Texas is pressuring TCU and Texas Tech to withhold votes, leaving the conference one vote short of reaching that necessary 75-percent threshold.

I very briefly skimmed, but didn't see...

What power does Texas hold over TCU and TT at this point? Genuinely curious if I'm missing something as a majority vote is just that. It's fun blaming Texas for everything and all, but I'm not sure I see why the other two schools would bend over for them.

Not a chance in hell La Tech would make it in. Ruston will forever keep them out of being anywhere better. Maybe they can slip into the AAC if the Big 12 takes two teams from the American but I very much doubt it.

The only thing that gives Tulane any sort of hope is their location in NOLA.

Texas and Texas Tech are both public schools and have been in the same conference since the 1950s. Texas helped TCU join the Big 12 so TCU feels like they should go along with what Texas says.

TCU shouldn't be in a position to vote on keeping any school from moving up in conference realignment. If any school knows the significance of moving up in stature...its TCU. They would be huge hypocrites. The Big 12 not only needs to add 2 more schools...but maybe 4 IMO.

NORTH:

West Virginia
Kansas
Kansas State
Iowa State
Colorado State
BYU
Cincinnati

SOUTH:

Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
Texas
TCU
Baylor
Texas Tech
Houston

The Big 12 would never do it, but they should tell Texas to kick rocks. If you think your model and base are so great, then fly solo.

But if they did that, you might as well say welcome to the B1G to Oklahoma and Kansas

The Big 12 would die instantly. OU would leave so fast it you'd never know they were there originally. That would leave you with essentially what use to be Conference USA. TV deals would get scaled down to pennies on the dollar.

Depends on who they could get to fill the void. B12 is on relative lie support anyway, I'd be fine if it choked out and TCU went the way of the SEC.

This may be a dumb question, but why do the other programs stick with Texas? My understanding is they don't derive any benefit from LHN, and it prevents them from having a conference network. Wouldn't it make sense for them to dump Texas and expand?

If there ever was a time to do that, and by do that, i mean bluff to get them to get with the program, now would be that time since they are sucking it up.

A few years ago they'd probably be very open to leaving the Big12 and being Notre Dame South. I doubt they'd want to now.

OU and Kansas to the BIG as soon as they can if Texas really blocks expansion.

big 12 isn't expanding because the options out there are crap. they're waiting for the acc's gor to expire or settle before getting sec rejects fsu and clemson.

Who would they add that would justify it being a P5 conference and keep the TV deals flowing?

If they could have dumped them back when all this started and added some ACC or PAC schools and kept who left I could see it. Now it would be a pretty rough conference
