Going back to the 2007 draft there hasn't been a RB drafted in the 1st round to live up to their potential. Whether that's based on injuries or production That same year AP and Lynch were draft.
1st round picks since 2007
2008
Darren McFadden
Johnathan Stewart
Felix Jones
Rashard Mendenhall (Retired)
Chris Johnson
2009
Knowshon Moreno
Donald Brown
Beanie Wells
2010
CJ Spiller
Ryan Matthews
Jahvid Best (Retired)
2011
Mark Ingram
2012
Trent Richardson
Doug Martin
David Wilson (Retired)
Now let's look at the 2nd and 3rd round picks since 2007
Matt Forte, Ray Rice, LeSean McCoy, Ben Tate, Shane Vereen, DeMarco Murray, Stevan Ridley, Gio Bernard, Le'Veon Bell, Montee Ball (Jury is still out), Eddie Lacy, Knile Davis, Jeremy Hill, Tre Mason, Jerick McKinnon.

I would pounce on Gurley in the first this year
He's an elite talent.

Not with those injury problems.

Even Lynch didn't do shite for the team who drafted him.

One ACL injury?
Might as well be a sprained ankle these days
Posted on 4/28/15 at 8:32 pm to wildtigercat93
You think Gurley can stay healthy 16 games?
Posted on 4/28/15 at 8:33 pm to tzimme4
Yeah I do
I think he's well worth the risk

but what if shady or demarco Murray were drafted in the first? would they have just sucked?

Luckily the Titans took Sankey in the 2nd round

He had a quad injury and a badly sprained ankle in 2013, too, but he's the best RB prospect since Peterson when healthy.
Will Melvin Gordon finally be the Wisconsin back who actually does something in the NFL? I doubt it.
Jay Ajayi from Boise could be solid for a few years.

Oh you mean like Peterson was at Oklahoma?
quote:
Peterson, a Heisman Trophy hopeful and the fourth-leading rusher in Oklahoma history, broke his collarbone on a dive into the end zone Saturday, and will miss the rest of the regular season.
quote:
Despite all that success, Peterson had been fairly injury-prone
in his Oklahoma career. He dislocated his left shoulder in fall
practice in 2004, reaggravated it during the regular season and
then had surgery in the offseason.
He missed one game last season and was severely limited in three
others with a sprained right ankle.

That's the thing, you can still get elite RB talent in the 2nd-4th rounds. RB is such a risky position to draft at such a high pick.

Not sure you have noticed ,but the game has hanged....Rbs can be found in basically any round to serve the purpose a RB does in the NFL these days................

You can say this about every position if we cherry pick like the OP

Don't sleep on Indiana's Tevin Coleman either.

The problem is not drafting a rb in the first, it's drafting a bad one. If Forte, McCoy, Bell were first rounders, they would have been worth it. Teams need to stop making shitty evaluations.

Adrian Peterson has all those Super Bowl rings, right?
