Not sure why they separated college football/basketball and pro football/basketball. Your chart would indicate that soccer is the 3rd most popular sport.

We were talking about pro sports, so it still fits.

However, if you want to include college, it would be #3.

Even if he came to your house and stapled his methodology to your forehead, you still wouldn't accept it.

different rules, different level of players, different fanbases

This.

How many people have you heard say "NFL (or NBA) is a different ballgame" compared to college. Yes, it is essentially the same sport...but there's a difference.

How many people on here love college football but don't like the NFL?

How many people on here love the NBA and think college basketball is weak?

Because they have completely different fan bases.

Can't buy the argument. The difference in style of play between the college and pro game is no different from the differences in say La Liga and the EPL. I know a Bundesliga/Bayern fan who does not like watching the EPL.

Pfft.

College = Thousands of Amateur Athletes
NFL = Hundreds of Professional Ones, Best of College

What you're talking about is a difference in play and player style. EPL is physical, Bundesliga is more finesse. Like the difference between the I-Formation and the Spread. Same game, different styles.

You're trying to compare the difference between two top-tier professional leagues with the difference between the most elite football league in the world and a league that hundreds of teams play in where the players play for "free".

I can't believe nobody commented on the jackholes that said soccer isn't tv friendly. Not only is it very tv friendly, it's life friendly. Start, play 45 minutes, halftime, commercials, start 2nd half, play 45 minutes. End game. I know I only have to set aside 2 hours to watch the game. Really not that much. Instead you have 5 hour college football games with lots of commercials and lots of downtime between plays. I know you hard asses want to pretend soccer isn't rising. But when Goodell ruins your little throw ball league, what are you going to watch?

There is no need to be upset.

Hell the MLS cup had a 0.7 overnight rating, which was down from the year before. Hell, the MLS Cup hasn't had a single game draw a 1.0 since 2001.

It is even behind TNA wrestling. TNA Impact Wrestling gets over 1.0 every week.

So they lump Soccer into one big sport but they separate baseball, football and basketball?

Doesn't make sense.

As it's been mentioned before...college football/basketball is different from NFL/NBA.

Different fanbases, different rules, etc.

Soccer is soccer. EPL, MLS, La Liga, Bundesliga, etc. It's the same sport everywhere now that the MLS got out of the dark late 90s (shootouts, weird clock, etc). The only difference is the start date for each season.

If you think about it that way, it makes total sense...if you're willing to let it be right.

Why are so many people so anti soccer? It's a great sport, and I love watching and playing it. I don't watch MLS, but I watch premier league games on ESPN and Fox Soccer every weekend,,along with college football and NFL. It was driving my fiancé crazy, because i would just watch sports from morning to night in the fall... but now I get to watch the games before she wakes up and then do whatever she wants to do.

No tv timeouts (I hate commercials), great skill and excitement. 10-15 years ago, we didn't have the exposure to soccer in this country. I never watched it. Now I'm hooked, cause its always on.

And in March, I'm going to my first premier league game in London... Arsenal v. Everton... Go Gunners! Can't wait.

If it weren't for the growth of the sport here, and the networks showing more of it on tv, I probably wouldn't be much of a fan.

Yes and 20-30 years ago you wouldnt be able to watch a soccer game on any channel in any city. now if you want you can watch 10-15 games a week. (and thats without watching any Spanish channels) How many NFL and NBA games can you watch a week, not including some special package?

Did you even know what the World Cup was 20-30 years ago. NO. Now every single game is televised by ESPN and ABC and "you" probably even watched it when the USA was playing

People have been saying this for decades, and they have been correct. Just because it hasnt grown to NFL or NCAAF status in 20 years doesnt mean it is not growing.
