No matter how people try to force soccer down American's throats it just doesn't work. We have too many different popular sports for it to be successful here. In other countries soccer is the only game in town. It's popular among kids but that's as far as it will go. I like soccer but people in the US just don't care about it.

it's the fastest growing sport in the USA popularity wise, and more and more people are starting to play it. With today's pussified parents, more kids will chose soccer over football. Also wait till the WC 2014 when the US games are beamed in HD onto ESPN in your living room.

No need to turn this into a huge soccer debate (which will inevitably happen), but soccer is the second most popular sport in the 25 and under demographic. They will not all hate soccer when they grow up. Soccer is getting pretty big and will continue to grow.

The World Cup is fricking amazing. It is month straight of captivating games.

I refuse to believe that less than half of the American people watched the Super Bowl. Refuse to believe it.

They don't take into account all of the parties/bars/screenings and such.

Been hearing this for 25 years. As a kid all we played was soccer during recess. When we got older we played Basketball, Baseball and Football.

I believe you confused soccer with MMA.

Are the MLS playoffs even on tv? Serious question.

NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, NASCAR, and action sports are all pro leagues that get more pub than soccer. Yet it's a popular youth sport. Why? Because it can be played by both genders at the same time, it's safer than real sports, and they get the kids all running and worn out so their parents can make them take a nap after the game so they can have some peace and quiet.

Soccer is right around boxing in this country right now. MMA has gone from nothing in the early 90's to multiple PPVs a year with over a million buys. I don't give two shits about MMA myself, but it's a far more popular sport and has far more growth in the sport. Soccer is what candy arse 8 year old suburban kids do when either football/baseball aren't in season or when their parents want them to get a little bit of sun and some cardio. That's it.

Mma is not nearly as popular as it was a couple years ago. Soccer just keeps growing though.

Yep. So are regular season MLS games as well as EPL games (top league in England).

I hate soccer and I don't need the NFL to be popular to enjoy it. So with that said, I hope soccer does become more popular.

Yeah, I'm mad

Outside of the World Cup and the Fox Soccer Channel, I have never seen a soccer game on my television and I have every single channel that Dish Network offers.

I like the World Cup dont get me wrong but as far as Americans choosing to play soccer over football, basketball, baseball, it just wont happen in America unless the other 3 are banned.

People will never watch a regular season MLS match over a regular season MLB,NBA or NFL game and prolly not an NHL game.

If the wage structure in the MLS ever approached that of England, Spain, Italy, Germany or hell even France more kids would be drawn to it.

ESPN2 shows one every Saturday morning from the EPL. Do you have BeIn Sports? They show a ton.
