With some sort of automatic qualifier for the best group of 5 champion? Or if the best group of 5 champion is ranked in the top 14 (or something) they get in?

They have to squeeze in at 7 or 8. 5 conference champions are in, 3 at large bids. Whether they have the SOS or not (obviously they don't), they still won every game they played.

Yeah, 2-1 vs the field, with 2 of them in prime time on the road. PSU, Michigan and USC were 1-1, Bama 1-0, Okla and Washington 0-1, Clemson 0-0.

That fixes nothing. More kicking it down the road. The only way auto bids work, is if they're all playing under the same rules.

Exactly, that's why I said have a stipulation that they have to be ranked in the top 10 or 12 of the committees last ranking to get the auto bit. Sort of like the Notre Dame stipulation they had for BCS bowl, that they had to be ranked in the top 12 in order to get an invite.

How is that not playing by the same rules? If we are going to do auto bids for the P5 conference champs then you have to have a suckage clause. Nobody would want to see VT this year.

Nice matchups but still not a fan of the 8th team getting any shot at a NC. Just too much mediocrity in most years.

I agree...p5 conference champs automatically in and 3 wildcard teams...committee seeds them and first round played at higher seeds home stadium

Duh. There is every year. You are basically saying why bother even playing the playoff this year since Bama is head and shoulders better than everybody. If you have a suckage clause then you don't get somebody in the top 8 that has absolutely no business being their.

We are arguing two different points then. I'm in favor of an 8 team playoff and you are not. I have no issue with including all P5 conference champions if they meet a certain criteria (suckage clause. I'm also not arguing that OSU should not be in this year because I believe they do. I'm just saying I like the idea of an 8 team playoff where PSU gets rewarded for winning the conference and being capable of making some noise.

Id like to see a 6 team play off, top 2 teams get a bye. 6 plays at 3, 5 plays at 4. Then the final 3 games like it already is.

I don't either. What criteria? It has to be more than some arbitrary nonsense, or there's little or no improvement.
All conferences would need to be standardized before this would ever work.
