Most likely both make the playoffs.

End of season rivalries and conference championship games would both be devalued in an 8 team playoff.

We just watched a B1G championship game that likely meant nothing. The SEC championship game today likely meant nothing.

It looks good with the exception of the missing G5 berth.

Then we would be arguing about #9 and 10. Just stop. Don't double down on stupid. There are 64 basketball teams in the tourney. We spend all Sunday night arguing about who go screwed out of the #64 slot.

This is stupid. The BCS did it's job and people hated it.

Which is why a 10 team playoff(conference champs only) is the only thing that makes sense. No subjective bullcrap. Win and you're in. Lose and go frick yourself

I like.

if you lose, tough titties.

if you win, you'll have no problem with the format.

Or unless 8-5 conference champs.

I personally think they should just auto-bid P5 conference winners just reflect an upset in the rankings.

Not within the current structure of college football.

I don't foresee an 8-team system that would exclude this year's Western Michigan. Best record in the country vs. the #71 (out of 128) schedule gets them a road trip to Tuscaloosa, if you ask me.

I have a problem with this too. I don't want teams like Florida or Va Tech in a playoff when they don't deserve it. Championship games have upsets. Sometimes big upsets. LSU won the SEC in 2001 with 3 losses. We didn't deserve to play for a NC.

Terrible, unrealistic, amateur, poorly-thought-out idea.

Sure it does.

Wouldn't you rather be watching first round games the weekend of Dec. 17 instead of the New Mexico and New Orleans bowls?

Because you take the conference champs and then the 3 best remaining teams...that's how they get in.

8 team playoff with 3 at large bids ... make the regular season 11 games, play the title games tgiving weekend, two or three weeks off to finish school and heal, then 2 games at campuses based on seedings, then xmas, then 2 after at permanent sites based on geography so fans can travel more easily ...

There was little reason for psu to show up Saturday, but they did ...

You think there would or should be some stipulation for group of 5 teams to have a better shot?

Just stipulate that conf. champs have to be ranked in the committees final top 10 or 12 to get the auto bid.

I don't want this year's Virginia Tech in a playoff. Or last year's Southern Cal.

Although it might not happen very often, automatic bids for conference champs opens the door for a very undeserving team to make the playoff. Even in an 8-team playoff.

However, an 8-team playoff would probably get all 5 conference champions in more often than not. And getting all 5 conference champions in right now is impossible. All I'm saying is that it would go a long way in ending this whole "you have to win your conference" debate, while at the same time giving us the BEST 8 teams.
