Smh, how stupid. George Wallace standing in the door way had nothing to do with Alabama football, that was just acts of racism. In this case however, football is at the source. The acts, the cover ups, all lead back to the football administration.

No the employees of the Athletic Department and the University were the source. I know bammers have a hard time understanding that "just acts of racism" are crimes against society as any other acts. I do not think either act required NCAA involvement.

I do feel that the NCAA should set a precedent in this case though. They need to send the message that if your administration can't control what is going on behind the scenes of your football program, then maybe you should think about not playing football for a while.

SEC teams/fans would NOT want this. Jimmy Johns selling coke on campus? Probation for Bama. Auburn with 4 players committing armed robbery? Probation. Isaiah Crowell a repeat criminial? An even worse probation for UGA.

Should Penn State get the death penalty
There will be no accreditation issues. Penn State is a great school.

Wanna bet???

Take a look at standard 6 in the Middle States Commission's handbook (the agency that accredits Penn State):

"Standard 6: Integrity
In the conduct of its programs and activities involving the public and the constituencies it serves, the institution demonstrates adherence to ethical standards and its own stated policies, providing support for academic and
intellectual freedom."

And a further breakdown of the standard on integrity:

"Fundamental Elements of Integrity
An accredited institution is expected to possess or demonstrate the following attributes or activities...

...sound ethical practices and respect for individuals through its teaching, scholarship/research, service, and administrative practice, including the avoidance of conflict of interest or the appearance of such conflict in all its activities and among all its constituents."

I'm not saying that the Middle States Commission will yank PSU's accreditation. But PSU most definitely has accreditation issues here.

Even an MSU fan should be able to grasp the difference between athletes committing crimes on campus and the university administration engaging in a coverup of those crimes.

The lawyers will give them the DP. NCAA should keep out.

If anyone is familiar: The University is historically In loco parentis but my understanding, regarding sexual crimes, they are now required to report these to civil authorities, which PSU did not. And there is a sanction against the University from the State if this is found out. In other words, the State can shut down the athletic programs or suspend funding. I cannot recall the the name of the law but I think it was enacted in the 80's maybe? Anyone know?

Joe Pa is starting to look like a real scumbag.

Good example of why it is a bad idea to put a statue up of someone who is still alive... (Yes I'm aware of the irony of this )

If Saban, Chizik, or Richt acted in concert with their respective schools' AD and president to conceal those criminal actions from the authorities, you MIGHT have a point. But they didn't, so you don't.

This is pretty spot on.

The PSU situation certainly sounds like a textbook case of "Lack of Institutional Control" to me.

Okay, found it.
The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. This is the law, that if AG pursues PSU in violation of, would be the worse case scenario for the University.

This^^ It seems that some people on here are refusing to see the true root of the problem with PSU. THE FOOTBALL ADMINISTRATORS AND SOME SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS TRIED TO COVER IT UP!!!

From what I remember of AG having a press conference when this all broke, her tone and words indicated she didn't give a flip about PSU NCAA status nor athletic programs...rightfully so.

No, the actions of a few should never take down a university. They need to find a way to hurt penn state but not destroy them. It is not the fans and students fault.

What happened to SMU should never happen again.

However, I do not have a legit answer on how to make Penn State pay.

It is the school's responsibility to make sure things are down properly. The school is still accountable for the players and the administration.

Aside from civil suits and legal action, the Clery Act may be brought to bear. What's being forgotten is that in the AG's eyes this isn't an Athletic Department issue...it's a PSU issue from the Chancellor on down.

The old fashioned way, financially. Don't punish the current players for the past sins of a few by killing or destroying the football program. Criminal and civil penalties against those involved

destroying the football program.

I'd be concerned that it could destroy the whole school. The financial liability that PSU now faces could be massive. I expect a class action type suite that hits them like a sledgehammer.

Those emails after all the lying to cover up after getting caught will be the nails in the coffin.

Oh I bet you are the most progressive when it comes to southern race relations. Its horrible when Alabama does it, but I guess Auburn has never done anything like that huh? I guess Auburn wanted all the African-Americans in the state to attend go ole AU but they just didn't want to come huh? Get off your high horse. Every, and I mean every institution of higher learning has had and will continue to have racial issues. All of the majority white schools and HBCUs have had them. It is just how things are, but we have to all strive to make ourselves better people. No one can point the finger.

So after Watergate, does the Justice Dept punish the Republican Party ? You punish the individuals involved thru the proper channels. The NCAA is an Administrative and Regulatory Arm of College Athletics, this was a criminal act. Any actions by the NCAA would be grandstanding at this point.

Honestly this is all pointless and stupid to be discussing. We all know that PSU is not getting the death penalty. The B1G won't allow it. Too much money stands to be lost if the PSU couldn't play football for a season.
