I'm hoping what the Seahawks do is something that is not divisive or disrespectful on any way. I am with Whitlock on this that things need to be done in a very uniting and non divisive manner so every citizen can join. I'm hoping something very good comes from all of this...

Considering the social stigma surrounding the freedman at that time, and the pervasive mistreatment of blacks before and after the civil war, I'm and many are inclined to believe those men weren't mostly fighting because they say blacks as equals, but more so for the unity of our states.

You're not gonna pass that intellectually shallow appraisal of the racial attitudes of civil war vets past anyone with a brain bigger than a pea

If they don't give their life to fight for their country in a war that led to the abolishment of slavery then slavery doesn't end then. You argue that no specific reperations have been made but without these men giving their life slavery doesn't end there. Without the creation of HBCU's higher education is unattainable for the black man for how many more decades. Without minority grants and scholarships how many young men would have never been able to afford to make a better life for themselves? You have this asinine notion that you have to have a check handed to you for it to be a specific reperation, that is simply not the case. Is America perfect? No. Are there still people with impure hearts based solely on outward appearance? Yes unfortunately. I just find it hard to sympathize with vague critiques of the most powerful country in the world which is ran by a black man, has had black ministers of defense, has major cities with predominantly black mayors, judges, city councils, and police chiefs, but it's still not enough?!? C'mon man... c'mon. Then coming on here and saying it is because you haven't been handed a check from the US government saying for slavery is the reason for this thought is just downright disingenuous and is a prominent reason why rational talks on the matter cannot be had.

Shouldn't Africa pay the bill of that also since they sold slaves for 400 years? Hell, if my descendants literally "sold me out" I might want to hold them somewhat accountable.

While there are individually productive, intelligent and responsible black people, they have been so disappointing as a race. When's the last time 1,000 black people have moved into a neighborhood and made it better. I challenge you to give me an example.

When have black people moved en masse to a city/state/neighborhood and the result was less crime, safer streets, better schools and less reliance on government services?

Did Doug Baldwin NOT live there?

Swing again? WTF are you talking about, you're saying you know more about a dude's life than he does. You're rather obviously wrong, "swing and miss" doesn't really work when you're wrong.

Why does Colin just now feel oppressed? What flipped the switch for him? Was it that 60million$ contract that sent him into an oppressed state of mind?

Sherman and Kaep have both been backed by the left in their various "incidents" and so they both feel empowered to use their political capital to push the envelope here. Will be very interesting to see what happens. They are seriously overplaying their hands if this plays out the way it looks to be playing out.

I would actually listen to what Richard Sherman has to say. He's a stanford graduate and it about as smart and articulate as they come. The only reason Kaep cares about this, is because of his Jihadi girlfriend who is a militant. Before that he never gave one single frick.

Serious question, why do whites get offended when it's not about them or about uniting everyone. That suggests that we all get treated equally or that "white grievances" against black and brown people are as extensive, historically and empirically, as those of minorities grievances against whites.

It's an asinine notion to even ponder

HBCUs have and did educate blacks and others that couldn't get an education elsewhere. Again was this a federal program explicitly covered under reparations?

No

There is a group that has profited and benefitted from affirmative action more than white women. Check your stats bro. Again, was this a program EXCLUSIVE to the descendants of slaves?

No

No it's not enough. A few tokens wading above their drowning contemparies is not a fair or justice look at equality. You cannot discredit the collective black experience and how blacks communally view each other in a way that is not Eurocentric --- Eurocentric views on "success" are widely self-center and self-focused. It's the basis of the Age of Enlightenment, the Protestant revolution and their fight for autonomy from England. Coupled with their ruling status in the country, and how the social constructs, laws, etc at our Genesis propped and placed the white man at the top of our pecking order. Our foundation was not established with equality for all men in mind; it's a matter of spirit of the law vs letter of the law. The law says all men created equal but u and I know their actions said and continually said that was bullshite.

How many cities have white Americans bankrupted and destroyed since 1776? Too many to name. You can't give us 40 years and 4 cities after disenfranchising us for 300 years and then say, "I told ya so."

That's willfully ignorant

Why does the common talking point always go back to historically... well in....

As a descendant of an Alibamu Indian great grandfather was from the Polk county reservation and great grand was from the Alibamu-Creek reservation in Oklahoma, Irish immigrants post the Easter rebellion to the US (they came in 1917), and Irish "share-croppers" (aka white slaves) I refuse to live in the past. The grievances against my relatives by white people, namely europeans is numerous. That has zero effect on my life today.

I grew up in a predominantly black town with a black mayor, black police chief, predominantly black officers and was racially profiled. I would get stopped for being: out too late, being in a neighborhood I shouldn't be, etc. However in college I realized that was but a microcosm of America and though it was unfair for me it had zero effect on what I could become. I went to school on an athletic scholarship and made the most of it by obtaining a degree. I moved to a city into a multi-cultural neighborhood and have found out the prejudice I saw growing up wasn't as prevalent outside the city limits of where I grew up.

I don't resent anyone because they had to fight. I don't even reason them for calling out prejudices when they exist. I resent the fact that because of the coor of my skin that my opinion is given less credence when engaging in these talks despite the fact that I have lived them.

If we are to have a discussion about current race relations then have it. I could care less that Kap doesn't stand for the anthem, it is within his rights as an American. What does piss me off is your insinuation with whites this whites that like somehow what my ancestors endured or what I endured is invalidated by the color of my skin. I resent your racism in lumping me with others because of my skin color. When arguments like you have constructed with your lumping of everyone of a certain melanin content together are thrown out then yes I will stop listening and give you the credibility you deserve...NADA.
