What makes them overrated? The fact that they coach good teams?

Not even close.

Both are better than

Tony Dungy
John Gruden
Mike Ditka

And a few more

Obviously this won't go over well on a Saints board, but most sensible NFL fans would agree.

Tomlin is NOT overrated. I'd take him over Payton

He's getting outsmarted by Marvin Lewis and John Harbaugh on a regular basis these days.

I disagree. He has a team filled with aging bloated contracts and they can't get younger fast enough.

And got utterly pwned by Mike Pettine a few weeks ago.

Tomlin is quickly showing himself to be one of the more inept game day coaches in the NFL. He inherited a veteran-laden team with a ton of leadership, and it's gone downhill since that roster has turned over.

Yeah, the Steelers don't get nearly enough grief for horribly mismanaging their cap situation the last few years.

I could not disagree more about Payton. I think he's the genius behind the turnaround of that franchise. He morphed Drew Brees from a good quarterback to an MVP-type player.

I do agree on McCarthy, though. Rodgers is crazy good.

McCarthy turned Aaron Brooks into a legitimate NFL QB that actually carried a team on his back and won a playoff game.

Seriously, name five coaches in the league better than Payton. Go ahead and try and we'll compare résumés.

Look at McCarthys last year before becoming a HC. OC at SF. Possibly the worst offensive season of all time. I don't know if it was his decision to go with Smith over Rodgers but he left Frank Gore backing up the great Kevan Barlow.

McCarthy I can POSSIBLY see the argument.

But with Payton, it is patently ridiculous to claim him overrated. You'd have to be an idiot to not see it. Just look at the saints record the last three years.

2011 12-4 PLAYOFFS Loss Divisional Round 49ers 36-32
2012 7-9 no playoff
2013 11-5 PLAYOFFS Loss Divisional Round Seahawks 23-15

these were essentially the same teams, the only difference?
no payton.
