I'd favor an overtime system that essentially says "if you have possession of the football AND have the lead, you have won the game"

That's an interesting twist that I haven't thought of before. Not sure how I feel about a team scoring a FG, then giving up a TD, and still getting another chance.

The "defense should stop them argument" is such shite. The guy that compared it to the top of the 10th baseball argument is 100% spot on. It is the same exact thing. Ending in a tie is way better then the current NFL rules

10/10 troll based on the responses.

And if you actually believe the crap you've spewed in this thread, then that sucks for you.

And none of you can explain how those analogies are any less ignorant than your "they deserve to lose/coin flips are fair" argument.

They had an entire game to do something to win. Adding one drive to it doesn't erase all of that. Your whole argument is stupid.

the Saints defense didn't play in overtime, so the answer to your question isn't an obvious yes like you expected.

Actually the answer to his question is what he expects. Is it not a defenses job to stop the opponent? Hell lets just let the winning team with 2 minutes left win. Why force a team to play d to win?

everyone flips out and denounces it, and yet not only does no one refute it every time it's asked like you did in this thread, no one even tries to explain why the NFL overtime rule is ok but any of the hypotheticals are completely different.

no, the Saints defense didn't have that job assignment in overtime.

I have no idea what point you're trying to make here.

Why have an arbitrary rule that says a TD ends it but a field goal doesnt?

Assume a game where both teams score a TD on every possession during regulation. After 60 minutes, the game is tied. The team that wins the toss scores a TD on its first possession. This game is determined by a coin flip. Still say it's fair?

What if the team who receives in the second half scores the last td in the first half?

at the end of every quarter I say whoever is losing the time possession battle gets the ball to start the next quarter. I mean it's only fair right that both teams get equal time.

The rule was put in place due to the ease it was to get 40 yards to win. They made it where they must go 75 yards. U have lots of time on your hand it seems so look up how many Tds come from 75+ yard drives. And then get the percentage from how many doesnt.

The sample size is too small to make any definitive conclusions, but I guarantee a large sample size will show the team getting the ball 1st has an inherent advantage.

You seem to have just as much free time.

Quit making lazy arguments and do your own work if you want to prove some kind of a point.

no doubt, which is why no one chooses to kick when they win the coin toss.

And this is why the analogy that ending the game if a team scores a run in the top of the 10th inning is a great analogy.

not sure which made less sense, that one or the ending the game with 2 minutes left line.
