I'm not wasting my time arguing what standing or what rights Johnny's father has at this point. It's pointless. I don't care about being a tough guy or what stance you think I'm taking.

But I'll tell you this. If he was my son, I wouldn't be standing idly by watching him squander his career, future, and life. Not to mention the family name. And clearly a "good talking to" isn't going to suffice, so extreme measures may need to be taken. This isn't some friend gone off the rails or a crazy cousin you cut off ties with, this is his own blood. And I would expect my father to do the same. But that's kind of why he is in this position in the first place isn't it? Because his parents never told him no, never advised him on life decisions, and did nothing but enable a spoiled selfish child. Which is what he still is today, a child

Whole family seems trashy. I remember the article Wright Thompson wrote a while back, painted a picture that his dad has the same attitude as Johnny.

Maybe all of this will be a wake up call for him. He needs a mentor and sometimes parents aren't the best for that role.

Sure. Agreed. But that time is passed. You wouldn't have a hundredth of the power over your adult children that you are pretending to have. All I have to do if I'm Johnny to thwart your plan is not answer the door or go on vacation and not tell you where. Believe it or not your children are actual whole other people who you can't force to your will.

Didn't his family coddle the frick out of him to begin with? Haven't they always been seen as an issue?

Now that he is on the brink of never playing in NFL again, the cry for help comes.

Dad should have been Dads years ago. If I went down the wrong path as an early 20 something my Dad had my respect and would have kicked my arse into shape because he was a real father to me my entire life. He never babied me or acted like my friend. He was my Dad and I loved him for that.

Read up on his family's history (Manziel side). They came over from (I think) Syria in the 1940's and were run out of several cities for being scammers.

I think dad needs to look in the mirror and ask himself how his parenting contributed to his son's shitty, entitled attitude.

It's not the NFL's job to help JM out, he did this to himself.

I feel bad for the kid. He obviously can't handle the pressure he is under so hopefully he gets the help he needs

Well said klark...

I really find it hard to feel bad for celebrities and specifically JM... They do this to themselves... They swear they're immortal until they find out they aren't... By then, it's usually too late

For his family's sake (assuming they give a shite about him), I hope he can bounce back... However, I'd be surprised if he did, we may never see him in the league again

There's a pattern of shady behavior in the Manziel family going back at least three generations. When the whole family is unstable, don't expect anyone to come riding to the rescue LINK

So what does he do, drink and does blow in the clubs? That's hardly going to kill someone. Sounds like he's just partying, so fricking what?

He was doing "normal" college kid stuff before, everything he did in college and early in his career was harmless and blown way out of proportion. Now it seems like he has truly gone off the deep end and has not only become a real danger to himself but also to others.

I would like to bookmark this thread for anytime anyone calls this board racist . Half the post are asking for Johnny to just go ahead and kill himself. Also, can we forward it to ESPN? To prove these days if you do douchey things, people will dislike you no matter your color?

I agree. Me and strongbackweakmind were in a agreement his college shite was blown waaaaay out of proportion and he would be fine in the NFL. Looks like we were wrong
