Hate to break it to ya. But having a better supporting cast has always helped someone's MVP case in the form of team wins, not hurt it.
See Derrick Rose having an MVP as an example.

From an outsider is it clear that the Rockets are a better team bc of the change at the head coach and the entire team buying into the new system. Most people did not see this coming bc you did not have anything to base it on since it is a new system.
Harden has change his style and has made every one around him better, while putting up great numbers.
Westbrook is having fantastic season and seems to be the media darling bc he is chasing a stat that has held up for 30 plus years. He is about to tie Wilt Chamberlain with triple double in a season.
As far as who's team is better and all of the advanced stats, who cares. The MVP is going to come down to if Westbrook can average a triple double or not.
Weather or not if Westbrook deserves it for averaging a triple double is irrelevant in the media. It is the more intriguing story and they have been pushing it for the entire season.
I know people that are very average sports fans that know about Westbrooks chasing history, but do not know about Harden's fantastic season.
They should just cop out and name them CO-MVP.
