quote:my point was that if everyone is waiting on him like he's the President of the United States, maybe his view of himself is not actually inflated. It is indeed ridiculous though.
This might be the understatement of the year

Well, Goddell is responsible for the sponsorship. I would say that he was successful in that. That's a big part of success, right?

You do realize there was sponsorship BEFORE Goodell, RIGHT?

Goodell ain't going nowhere peeps

Sponsorship deals aren't possible unless people watch.
Which goes back to the cultural perspective we were on earlier, and I don't see Goodell as responsible for that.

You do know that sponsorship was big before Goodell became commish, right?

My perspective, growing up mostly with Tag's NFL is that it's been a big part of the culture for a long time. Sunday afternoons with the family all over the country. The biggest difference between now and then? Technology. Everyone has HD tv's, streaming internet, a million channels, online fantasy football, scores on their phone, etc.
Fair point. I think that did help grow its base, though. When one of my fantasy football leagues is almost 50/50 men and women, you know something is different. Even in that respect alone.
Even if the NFL was always on an rise, always at a peak, it still takes some skill to manage that to keep it going. Regardless of his stupid decisions now, he had a few years of good management.
Did he alone manage to make the NFL the #1 American sporting league? Of course not. That's not what i meant.

He apologized for his handling of the Ray Rice situation.
But he will fix it.

No Rog, you won't get it right... you're a frickup.. stop apologizing and leave.

So I guess they don't need a CEO with that logic. Owners are wasting money.

are you really this stupid?
Sponsors have quit because of Goodell's actions recently.
I'm curious, how old are you?
Posted on 9/19/14 at 2:20 pm to abellsujr
No, I just think they could do better.
Posted on 9/19/14 at 2:20 pm to abellsujr
Would it have happened without him? Was the NFL already on that trajectory as set up by economic pressures and the work of his predecessors? All he had to do was not frick it up, and he is indeed fricking it up a little. You can't say that things wouldn't be even better without him.
That is the argument against him as I understand it.

Looks like Roger has aged dramatically in the last few months.
