I would argue that TV doesn't want a team in LA unless and until the NFL gets rid of its blackout rule AND changes its other broadcast rules. Right now LA gets three day games every Sunday. Put a team there, and you lose potential tv sets because of the NFL's rules.

Is it this
quote:

As someone above stated, the Cowboys have a huge market share in the San Antonio. The city ranks second highest in TV viewership of Cowboys games. That's a massive loss if Jerry loses the geographical TV rights to a new franchise.

Or this
quote:

San Antonio may also be a massive and continuously growing city (7th in population), but is a horrible TV Market given its size. The city keeps expanding, but there aren't many large suburbs surrounding the area.

San Antonio's corporate base is very meh. In Sunbelt cities that's what sells out your stadium, especially in down years. It's one of the reasons every Houston Texans game in the history of the franchise has been a "sellout".

San Antonio/Ausin has a lot of people, but that area doesn't have the huge corporate presence that will eat up most of the seating.

Even as I-35 cities like New Braunfels, San Marcos, Kyle-Buda expand, it would take quite awhile before Austin and San Antonio merge into one TV market.

Maybe not but most people here are Spurs fans over Mavs or Rockets and the drive from Austin to SA is extremely smooth.

Lol Austin alone has a pretty good corporate presence, better than a bunch of cities with NFL teams

True, but in Sunbelt cities which are notoriously fickle sports towns, corporate help is nice to have.

It's a combination of both. The owners wouldn't want to expand to a small TV market. Jerry Jones, and to a lesser extent Bob McNair, wouldn't want extra competition within Texas. And, as I said before, San Antonio doesn't have the current facilities to host an NFL team, nor the plans to build a new stadium.

Is the Alamodome even a viable NFL facility at this point? It's now 20 years old and not exactly a state of the art facility.

it would be fine for a few years while a new stadium was built.

Yup.

As a native of Austin/San Antonio, I would be absolutely thrilled if they got an NFL team.

Would the chargers start playing soccer?

I guess Rick thinks all his attacks on Cali are going to make it possible for him to get elected Governor again?

I don't think it'll work though. Last I checked he was even polling behind potential Dem candidates let alone Repub challengers.

Alamo dome would only be used till new stadium is built. Would have to be on the I-35 corridor to draw both Sa and Austin.

Why should the Jaguars move to LA?

Because Jacksonville can't sell tickets. At all. And Los Angeles is the second largest market in the United States. It's ridiculous that there is no NFL team there.

Obviously in jest...and potentially a jibe against San Antonio's Latino population, but MLS is the next major league looking to expand into San Antonio.

The Scorpions already have a 8k seat stadium capable of expanding to 18k seats nearly the completion of its construction.

I'm from San Antonio, but I don't think this city can sell 70k seats every week to support an NFL team or the constant sales required for a 162 game MLB season.

I think they could sellout 8 NFL games a year. I agree with you though on the MLB.

When the Saints played in S.A., they weren't even on TV. The market never stopped showing Cowboys games instead.

Do you really think anything is going to stop Jerry from keeping a stranglehold on the market?

The Saints were garbage that season.
But the attendance numbers for the Saints in 2005 at the Alamodome were: 58688, 65562, & 63747 which is pretty respectable.
