The Dallas Mavericks expect to be granted a meeting in the opening hours of free agency with Miami Heat center Hassan Whiteside, one of their two primary targets this summer, sources told ESPN.com. Memphis Grizzlies point guard Mike Conley is the other top target for the Mavs, according to sources, as Dallas attempts to construct a core that will allow the franchise to be competitive during Dirk Nowitzki's twilight and beyond.

The report indicates that Conley is "interested" in Dallas, but does not confirm a scheduled meeting with the Grizzlies point guard. It also indicates that Memphis will have to supply the Grizzlies with the fifth-year max in order to retain his services, which makes sense.

Whiteside finna get paid. It's going to be interesting to see this play out since Miami doesn't own his Bird Rights and will be in a pickle with cap space unless Wade takes a major pay cut

Ugh, have fun with that.

He's a nice little player but come on. He isn't worth almost $30m/year.

It's tough to compare with this new landscape.

The 2016 cap is $70 mil, the 2018 cap will be $110 mil.

So Conley making $30mil/year is comparable to making, what, around $18mil/year in the current landscape...which isn't a completely outrageous figure for Conley IMO.

I'll love him no matter what. He deserves another shot at a championship.

Riley is going to need to pull some of his old jedi mind tricks this off-season.

I guess it just depends on the team. Like him as a player.

Seems like the Knicks should've made a run at him instead of Derrick Rose.

Knicks just want the headlines. Conley doesn't stuff the headline like rose does

They do have wades bird rights. As long as whiteside signs first they can go over the cap to resign Wade.

The Mavs' plan A never works out... and usually plan B doesn't either. They don't draft well and Donnie is an average/maybe slightly above average GM. I think he's still living off getting Dirk years ago. Let Parsons walk but I don't think Dirk is going anywhere.
