They'll just waste it anyway.

Makes perfect sense why his Dad was trying to get him back into rehab last week.

Browns and Manziel quickly reaching Ryan Leaf status. Only took them a couple years.

100% guarantee that Jerry would have actually had the rules and support team to help guide him through his issues that the Browns seemingly did not have.

Because that worked so well with Michael Irvin, et al.

I definitely drink too much. But I'd NEVER let it get in the way of important things in life. Dude is going to work drunk? That's ridiculous.

Oh I agree

Particularly a job that requires you to be at your absolute sharpest like an NFL QB. If you're a bartender you can manage with a hangover.

If you're showing up to an NFL practice drunk you've got serious issues

Irvin himself credits Jerry with helping him overcome his problems. He even wants Jerry to get involved with Johnny specifically to help him.

quote:

"When you are around people that are more sympathetic and have dealt with issues like the Dallas Cowboys or like a Jerry Jones, who will get in there and talk to him on a man-to-man level and help him come along as a man. ... He helped me become a better man, and he will take his time," Irvin said. "When you know there is somebody pulling for you up in the higher office, it does make a difference ... I think it can make a difference in this kid's life."

And to think Jerrah had to be overruled by people in the organization to avoid trading the farm to get old Johnny Football.

I think you're confusing stories. The Cowboys didn't need to trade up for Manziel and I don't remember that ever being anything more than pure media speculation (because they wanted it so badly).

While I'm sure there was some debate in the room (and probably more in Jerry's head), I know Garrett and Stephen Jones were strongly against drafting Manziel, especially with the Cowboys' salary cap problems and having Romo already signed to a large contract.

If the Cowboys drafted Manziel, I see things could have unfolded in two ways.

1. Manziel gets help with rigid structure and support to help him deal with his issues.
2. Manziel's collapses in an even more spectacular fashion given that he's still in Texas.

Have there ever been any two dumpster fires more perfectly matched than the Browns and Manziel?

I mean, organization to player, that's gotta be top 3, at least.

i know he was a 20's pick but he might very well be the worst first round draft pick of all time

it's not like he was this all world workout warrior. he's small, has an avg arm and has avg speed and came out of a shitty offense. he's a guy you take in the 5th round and hope he develops into a backup not a first rounder

so he never should have a first rounder in the first place.

on top of that, he has literally never done one positive thing ever in 2 years.

Show me one first rounder that was black balled form the league after 2 years. shite at least Lawrence Phillips had talent

The Browns deserve to have their #2 pick stripped if this report is true.

They lied to try and protect what LITTLE trade value he still had at that point.
