Nobody wants the split except principals and ADs. Coaches voted against it as well as legislators. But the privates have no say in the organization and their best interests are not being met. They are losing out on money (playoff revenue) and it's about to get worse with the new split sports. So is there a NEED to split...? For the privates, yes.

uh some of those and about 5 publics pushed the play in class rule that started all this in 2004

In this case, YES. So you can govern yourself rather than outside entities that dont even play football tell you what to do.
Not to mention its like pulling teeth to accomplish anything down to a pay raise for officials.

Well it's either separate and have other schools dictate what you do with no regard to what's best for you.
Or
Separate and govern yourself and look out for your best interest.

You don't get up and walk out the meeting and hold an immediate press conference saying "we're gone."
I'm rather certain there has been some very confidential meeting and planning before the convention, and some early contingency plans formulated. But no way is anyone prepared to jump ship and try to form a new association in February, without substantive founding documents or policies in place, and a fair number of participants ready to announce.
Secondly, they are all still part of the LHSAA and will compete in this year's unified playoffs. You don't quit and leave your kids with no where to play this spring in post-season.

The point about the power is correct and various groups have used that to their advantage such as by threatening to kill class B and class C of those classes didn't vote for a football split.
Those schools don't even PLAY football for frick's sake. It's like all the all-male Catholic schools voting on softball or volleyball.
Any new organization likely won't have these kinds of problems in the short term because of how relatively homogenous they are as far as sports being played, philosophy of divisions, generally large metro areas of the state rather than rural, etc.
It will get messier as other schools want in as the LHSAA declines.

This recent meeting was not the first one between the various privates, Central, Zachary, etc.
I seem to remember a similar meeting happening a year or two ago right after the LHSAA annual meeting finished up.
The split option has been on the table for a while but it appears we're now reaching a breaking point since it is spreading to other sports.
While it is only the "big sports" of football, basketball, baseball, and softball right now I don't think we are far from every sport such as track, cross country, golf, bowling, and tiddlywinks splitting between public and private.

That's not what I was suggesting. I was speaking to the fact that they've already been separated in football for a few years and haven't taken any action. Is the "all sports" part what is finally causing the move?
Also, what would a new AA for the privates do about Louisiana privates currently playing in the Mississippi Association? You have schools like Central Private and Oak Forest that would get absolutely dick slapped in every sport except baseball, probably.

Bodine was brought in to end the split. There was some hope, now that he failed, it is done the split will happen.

Mr. Bonine was brought in on the presumption that he would shepherd a closing of the split, and the principals did the exact opposite.
What's really raunchy is that in future years HE will be judged badly because of this, even though he tried and the principals not only ignored him, but defied him, with seemingly no intention of working to repair it.
What kind of deal could he possibly broker, at this point? If I had any input, I'd tell him to resign, and join the new association as its head, or executive operating officer.

Nope, but this is the direct result of incompetent public school leadership.
There is no need for nine state championships in football but if the LHSAA is going force segregation of private schools then there is no reason for the privates to remain in the LHSAA. The LHSAA really only provides the private schools with competition. There is incompetence in administration is palpable. Once you remove the competition, all that's left is poor organization.

The new association would be wise to hire him away from the LHSAA. Besides, those people would be happier with another former public school principal puppet in that job anyway.

There were meetings three years ago about a separate association after the split. However, at the time there was a reasonable chance of realignment and the split only concerned one sport. However, those involved never stopped discussing and planning the ultimate possibility of a new association.

i dont think the new association could hire him but the school his kid plays for will be in the new association
