The 80s 49ers would not have any Super Bowl titles if "The Catch" didn't happen.
do you think they would have pulled off the 3 peat had Joe Montana not taken that brutal hit from Leonard Marshall?
although it was ultimately a Roger Craig fumble that gave New York one last shot at the end of the game...

So, you're going on record and saying Schiano is better than Saban?
Now yes. Schiano has a more difficult job than Saban week in and week out. Schiano gets no buy a wins via scheduling like Saban. Saban's NFL record was no better than Schiano.

Well that's the most asinine thing I've ever read on this board. Not surprising considering the source.

"The Shot Heard Round the World" is a tad overrated.
Babe Ruth is the most dominant athlete of all time.
Sports teams shouldn't mean as much to adults as much as they mean to non-adults.

What was it, 250 feet to left and right at the Polo Grounds.
I'm really surprised Chris Chambliss's home run isn't remembered more than it is. I think it's more of a 1950s New York Baseball nostalgia thing.
But yeah, it's at best the 4th best walkoff HR of all time behind Mazeroski, Gibson and Carter. The Giants didn't even go on to win the World Series that year.

The 2001 St. Louis Rams was the best team to not win a Super Bowl.
2001 Rams > 2007 Patriots
2001 Rams > 2007 Patriots

I don't think qb's should be able to 1)slide 2) throw the ball away without a WR in the area
I hate that qb's can slide last second and draw penalties. If you run past the line of scrimmage, you are a RB and deserve to get hit as so. I also don't think qb's should be able to throw it in the stands when no player is there just because they are outside the tackle box and get it past the line of scrimmage. Give the defense some kind of help as these games in the 30's are getting old

1) Both throwing the ball away without a WR in the area and spiking the ball should be intentional grounding.
2) I'm ok with ties.

WTF?
Saban was 15-17. Schiano is currently 7-16. I don't think Tampa is going 8-1 from here on out.

Ryder Cup is the most exciting sporting event
Agreed. Give me the Ryder Cup over any other major sporting event. Super Bowl, CFB playoff, NBA Finals, Masters, etc. Ryder Cup tops them all.

Little League WS is stupid. The WS being on TV is stupid. The fact that the US always gets a team in the championship is stupid. The fact that the best teams would get ran out of town by middle tier traveling teams makes it stupid.

I think hockey is much more entertaining than basketball and that basketball is nearly as fruity as soccer. That's not a popular opinion in this country.

UFC is as uninteresting as Boxing.

1. The World Cup is the best event in sports.
2. Even if the greatest American athletes were steered towards soccer, we would not dominate the game. It would take a complete structural overhaul of the managing in this country to develop talents like are seen abroad.
3. American style playoff systems are terrible ways to determine champions. Playoffs rewards streakiness to the detriment of year-long consistency. The fact that the NY Giants were SB champions over the Patriots in 2007 was ridiculous, especially considering the Pats had already beaten them in the regular season.
4. Re number 3 above, I have no solution that can determine a champion more justly in American sports as European Soccer structures would not work with our setups. I do think the BCS likely is the best system devised for rewarding total accomplishment, though I readily admit its myriad flaws.
5. Peyton Manning is to Quarterbacking what Saban is to coaching...joyless, stressful, and unequivocally brilliant. I lament that choking the fun out of a game in the pursuit of dominance is the most effective way to achieve the desired end.
6. John Elway was the most physically gifted QB in NFL history. His combination of arm strength and athleticism surpasses all the modern dual threat QBs by leaps and bounds.
7. Matt Ryan could QB an elite offense with the Saints under Sean Payton. Brees could not orchestrate a top 5 offense under just any coach in the NFL. That is more a comment on Payton's genius than it is a comment on Ryan vs Brees. Brees and Payton may be the best match in the modern era, with only Walsh/Montana in competition.
8. Joe Sackic was the most underrated NHL player of the 90s.
9. PED usage is absolutely rampant in both College and Pro football.
10. The Saints 2011 team was better than the Super Bowl winner.
