Point of local sports radio doing shows at a remote location?

Walked into Alexander's today to to pick up some stuff for dinner and there was Hanagriff and Ott doing their show. I know they are out somewhere every day, but honestly I don't understand it. Is the premise that they will somehow increase traffic to where they are? Do people go out to meet local radio hosts and get autographs? It was just bizarre to see 2 guys discussing the MLB playoffs in the lobby of a grocery store.
And for clarification, I know that all of these local shows rely heavy on advertising and sponsorships, and they all spend 1/2 the time plugging somebody or something. But all the other shows on 104.5 are done in studio, just curious why these 2 guys are traveling salesmen

105.3 the Fan has a shite ton of remote shows and they also have a ton of events, concerts and bar watch parties. At least here in Dallas you would be surprised how much traffic they bring.

Who wants to sit in a studio when you can go out to a local restaurant and be served delicious food?

I stopped at the Mobil station off 73 right by the interstate one day and Jimmy Ott is in there doing the show by himself. Seemed like an odd location.

Because they r paid to do so.

Yes, and it works. Not neccessarily on the day that they are there, but they mention the place 5000 times during the broadcast. It is definitley a smart marketing technique.

I would imagine that they get paid to do it

Moscona does remotes at least once a week.

2-3 hr commercial for the host

Ott used to do that crap every day on 1210 AM.
Hanagriff used to do Sports Today from the station when it was him hosting the show by himself.
Then 1210 went belly up and they brought in Ott and Ott taught Hanagriff how to get free lunches and they started going remote every day.

It's like a long commercial for the show where the remote takes place. Remember Ott and Roscoe at Team Toyota back in the day? Plus like others said, eat good food and develop relationships with the owners.

yes and I remember it re-airing on tv at night. You'd get a first hand look at Ott on the job. He'd literally take calls while reading the newspaper
