Jackson, who has won 11 championships as both a player and coach in the NBA, said that there’s a huge difference between how the game is played and handled today compared to the past. It’s one of the reasons why he’s so thrown off to the point that he no longer pays attention to the league.

"I am not enjoying the game; that's too bad. There's a whole generation that doesn't like the game. No, I don't (watch basketball). I watched the game evolve, and then they went into the lockout year and did something that was kind of wanky; they did a bubble down in Orlando,” Jackson stated in his appearance on the Tetragrammaton podcast.

Aside from the fact that the game has changed, the Zen Master also doesn’t like the idea of the league becoming too political for his liking. It started in the NBA bubble when the league, together with its players, utilized its platform to address a vast array of social issues. But according to Jackson, the NBA would be viewed better if it wasn’t too associated with politics.

“ … All the teams that could qualify went down there and stayed down there, no audience, and they had things on their back like 'Justice' and a funny thing happened like 'Justice went to the basket and Equal Opportunity knocked him down'... Some of my grandkids thought it was pretty funny to play up those names; I couldn't watch that," Phil said.

"The Lakers won that year," Jackson continued. "They even had slogans on the floor and the baseline. It was trying to cater to an audience or trying to bring a certain audience to the game, and they didn't know it was turning other people off. People want to see sports as non-political. Politics stays out of the game; it doesn't need to be there."

The bubble was unfortunate but at least they didn’t just void the season. Would’ve been lamer

Too bad the billion dollar activism industry has sunk its claws in deep.

As crazy as that fricker is, he’s right on this one.

Jackson > Popovich in every way.

Makes me feel better about turning my back on basketball, specifically the NBA. If Phil is saying this stuff publicly, that should tell the NBA all they need to know. Go woke go broke.

It’s unwatchable diva shite with a political bent at this point. I’d rather watch pickleball and I don’t even watch that shite.

The competition and storylines are too good to not watch for some silly political reasons.

It appears that one of the smartest men to ever be associated with the NBA would be in disagreement with you.

Forget all that, the game itself sucks now. No defense. Every dribble is a carry. Traveling on most plays. Breathe too hard and it’s a foul. The game is soft. And those rules slipped by because the NBA wanted more jaw dropping plays than integrity of the game.

The NBA’s, “Get out and VOTE” campaign is always such a one-sided joke. They’re basically telling the audience to go vote, BUT ONLY vote Democrat straight ticket. It’s pure propaganda.

You're proving Phil's point. You can believe in aspects of the BLM movement personally without it systematically consuming the sport. NBA players have been liberal for decades, only recently did it become entrenched into the league

I thought Phil was on the same level as popovich in terms of wacko liberal.

Is this a huge 180?

Not sure if it's old age or what but watching sports in general is pretty boring now.
