It would be one thing if this was a one time occurrence with new coaches. I could see only punishing staff in that case. But shite guys JoePa IS Penn State. The entire football program knowing and unknowingly harbored a child rapist for YEARS. Every single person associated with Penn State lived and breathed Joe Pa and PSU football. People decided it was better for boys to be raped than PSU suffer a black eye.

Who gives a shite if they are in jail? The NCAA can't come in just because the offense got them jail time? And in every case of the death penalty innocent people get punished. Sorry shite happens. Pete Carrol was long gone and USCs football program didn't do anything wrong...they still got hammered.

Just like this PSU scandal...it's important to get facts straight.

Who paid reggie bush? Who allowed child rape to happen? Yea i see the similarities.

A sports agent not affiliated or employed by Penn State University allowed child rape to happen?

So JoePa is cleared? That changes everything. Nice info.

I know I'm probably going to get blasted for this because mine is the unpopular minority opinion, but this move by the NCAA is completely uncalled for. It's an expansion of power to the nth degree and anyone who is in favor of this is operating more on emotion than they are on common sense. Some former FBI guy releases an unofficial investigative report into the Penn State matter and everyone takes it as gospel. The fact that the NCAA is issuing these penalties based on that report is just un-freaking-believable.

I'm going to reiterate my position and say that penalties against the football program are unjustified and unfair. The legal system is presently running its course. Anyone who was involved in this cover up will soon be thrown in jail for an awfully long time. We are letting emotion take over our capacity to think and it is clouding our judgment. Of course no one else will see it that way but this is what I believe and I'm sticking to it.

yeah, the Nazi party wasn't so bad, it was the leaders that ran it. Once Hitler, Himmler, and Goering were removed, it could've worked out.

No, they are the vocal minority. When you give fools a medium to spew stupidity, like TV or anonymous internet message boards, they will swarm it.

IIRC, it wasn't a USC fan who first brought up the Bush punishment in this thread...

But let's get back on topic, lads.

some shitty logic in here by the USCw posters , stop trying to compare your situation with Penn State they are no way the same

Reggie Bush taking money from an agent has nothing to do with child molestation at Penn State. Some dumbass brought it up, so I responded.

Those two unrelated things do have one thing in common though: NCAA sanctions.

Now this is a Bama fan I can agree with. Rush to judgment, doesn't fit must acquit...chewbacca defense...and everything else.

The NCAA should have waited. Taken their time to act rational.

Ppl are too short sided to see this. The football team is the athletic program. It will be a D1 program operating on D3 dollars. The whole program is screwed from football to tennis to gymnastics

Excellent post, and you were able to articulate my thoughts exactly.

The people who were in charge, regardless if they have already been punished or not, represented the university. They acted on behalf of the university. The university deserves just as much of a punishment as these individuals who covered it up. The university benefited during this 14+ year cover up. Keep that in mind.

First of all, the NCAA now has a complete trial record to examine. Are you suggesting they should conduct their own trial for Sandusky?

Second, that report was commissioned by Penn State. They don't have to go off the report itself, just the damn emails and letters are pretty bad.

Kicking them out of the NCAA will be fine with me. They can have all the college sports they want, in NAIA.

The more I think about it the more I think they may very well kick them out of the NCAA.

They have all these rules as posters have pointed out and the rules really do not address something quite like this BUT what these posters and others are missing is that the NCAA doesn't have to let schools be in the organization. They can say you are no longer a member.

This quote gives you some indication how serious the NCAA feels this is:

quote:

“I have never seen anything as egregious as this in terms of just overall conduct and behavior inside a university and hope to never see it again,” Emmert said in an interview on PBS’ “Tavis Smiley” program.

You're not getting. Nothing like PSU and child molestation has happened before, and I highly doubt it ever will again. Any man with the lowest of morals would turn in a scumbag child molester.

I disagree. The NCAA should not be meting out sanctions to Penn State for things that did not give Penn State any competitive advantage.

I don't really have a problem with the NCAA sanctioning SC for Mike Garrett's joke of a compliance system back in the day, but the degree of those sanctions was and is ridiculous.

Thankfully, we're coming off a 10 win season and kicking arse in recruiting, so the NCAA can suck it. Success is the best revenge.
