Correction: NO gets 42nd pick this year, not 11. The deal: Philly sends Jrue+42 to NO for Noel and 2014 first, which has Lottery protection.
The pick the Pelicans are giving up is lottery protected!!!

TRADE RAPE!!!

Only 1-3. Think it will be a good trade for both teams. As long as Philadelphia gets McCollum.

So if the Pels get a pick in the top 3 next year, they get to keep it?

Yes. 4th pick and up and it goes to Philly.

If they get a top 14 pick, they keep it.

So they only give up the first rounder if the pick falls outside the top 14?

That's what "lotto protected" is. What typically happens is that, if that lotto protected pick does fall in the lotto, it gets pushed back a year. After X number of years, it loses lotto protection and the other team gets it regardless.

It's only protected 1-3. Not full lottery.

Where are you saying it is only top 3 protected?

I'd rather have Noel than Holiday.

You'd rather a guy that has no offensive game and hasn't played a minute in the NBA than an All Star PG making $11m/yr for 4 seasons?

OK, just saw it. Drops my opinion of the trade a bit, but
Holiday/Vasquez/Roberts
Gordon/Rivers
?????????????????????
AD/Ryno
Lopez/Smiht

that pick will be in the lower teens unless they have a ton of injury issues outside of Gordon (whom I'm assuming will play ~50 games).
