The deal also sends defensive prospect Stephen Johns to the Stars. In exchange, the Blackhawks will receive defenseman Trevor Daley and forward Ryan Garbutt.

Blackhawks fans rejoice.

33-year old declining player who has a cap hit of almost 6 million. Chicago has desperately been trying to get rid of him.

Stars get more offense and lose their best defenseman.

Daley was statistically the worst defensemen on the team last year. He was very good offensively, but terrible defensively. The Stars have a ton of young good defensemen who could step up next year.

They were all terrible defensively. I don't care what the stats say, Daley is 100x better than they waste of oxygen that is Jordie Benn.

As far as the young guys go, we've been waiting for Oleksiak to arrive for a few years now, and I'm not going to hold my breath.

Not really, didn't free much and lost a decent prospect in the process.

From the Stars perspective this is a home run. They had to get rid of Daley, he was a -13 and had the worst possession numbers on the team. The Stars also had 8 defensemen on NHL contracts for next year.

Garbutt spent many games last year as a healthy scratch because of his lack of production and constant penalties that hurt the team.

Sharp is declining, but he is by far the second best LW the Stars have now. His cap hit is high but his contract comes off the books the same year Benn is due for a new deal.

Adding a top D prospect in Johns is just icing on the cake.

He was AWFUL last year. I think you'll be happy with what some of the younger guys will do with Daley's minutes.

This was a weird trade both ways. I think Chicago is going to move Seabrook still

I think it makes some sense. The Stars get better as far as personnel goes and the Blackhawks get salary cap space to keep Oduya.

I think the Stars still sign Oduya too. Its looking like the Blackhawks wont resign him. I love this trade for the Stars

They did, but they were tight as is. They got 1.7 M in cap space but were 1.4 M over. So they have 300k in room but have to sign at least one more player. I think a lot of Blackhawks fans thought they wouldn't have to take any cap back. To me it seems like Chicago isn't done on the trade front

Garbutt and Bickell play a similar game so I imagine Bickell may be the next Blackhawk to move and create cap space.

That would give Chicago a little more wiggle room but they'll stull be right up against the cap.

Didn't get much cap relief and had to send a prospect. In the 2010 dispersal, bowman loaded up with draft picks. Not this time.
