Coach K
Pitino
Roy Williams
Calipari
Boeheim (in his prime)
Self
Donovan

Are any other coaches in the conversation that I missed?

Coach K is the only slam-dunk obviously better coach, IMO

Let me ask you this...

Would Cal win with Izzo's players?

Would Izzo get Cal's recruits/players?

Izzo may be a better coach and I think he is but Calipari more than makes up for his deficiencies by the talent he brings in.

Cal made players out of Harrelson and Liggins in 2011 and took them to a Final 4. So yes, Cal could win with Izzo current players.

Now don't act like Izzo has mid-major talent. He is the mayor of Flint and he always gets good players.

Cal is a better recruiter (best in the biz), but Izzo is the better coach. I realize recruiting is part of coaching though so it may be a wash.

Don't get pissy, Cal's least talented team took it to the Bucknuts that year.

All but Pitino and Coach K. Pitino would have gone on a Saban-type run if he had stayed at UK. He would have won three or four championships easy and be in the GOAT conversation. Still, he's the only coach to take three teams to the final four. Pitino is the only coach to win national championships at two different schools. Izzo will have to win another ring to jump ahead of Pitino for me.

Is Izzo really better than pitino guys? Are we being prisoners of the moment?

Pitino: 2 ncaa championships, 1 runner up, 7 final fours, 3 elite 8s,, 1 sweet 16

Izzo: 1 ncaa championship, 1 runner up, 7 final fours,1 elite 8, 2 sweet sixteens

Seems to me Pitino is better

Pitino had a 17-year head start on Izzo.

Even if you take out his NBA jobs, he's still ahead by about a decade. Even take out his Boston University stint and he has a head start.
