Red shirt and Medical Redshirt.

He was a JuCo guy too.

It will make me mad if he gets his medical redshirt and Ott from Iowa doesn't. Ott is just seeking a fifth year and injured his elbow in the second game and played sparingly until he tore his acl in the sixth game. I doubt he gets it, but it just seems unfair if he doesn't and Smith did. I've hardly seen a sixth year ever get granted unless a player missed two years to injuries.

I could be wrong, but I think the NCAA considers "injured and playing sparingly" essentially the same as "healthy and playing constantly." In other words, only the games he missed due to the season-ending injury are considered.

Smith was injured in preseason and never set foot on the field this last year if I recall correctly.

He broke his leg in the Indiana game. Noah Brown broke his leg in preseason.

But he didn't play the first several games due to suspension. At least the first one.

Correct. Which is why he was able to get the sixth year despite playing in the fifth game.
