The only positive about this deal is that it finally gets Hog to admit that Orpik fricking sucks.

Orpik showed his age and declining skills this year. He was great and a big part of the Pens organization for a long time.

He was eventually going to decline. He's been a great player.

But he's your problem now.

...maybe he'll fail the physical and it will invalidate the deal.

The central will be the best division in the NHL again and the west as a whole dwarfs the east again

There have been a few really dumb deals so far but by and large everything seems to have been reasonable. I'm surprised. I expected some really dumb numbers being released on some of these deals.

It's funny, I was just thinking of the Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll. A lot of Caps fans were panicking after the draft, but I was like, meh... wait until free agency. don't over-react. Well, now... now is the time to overreact.

And all y'all who wanted GMGM gone... this is what you get. No way McPhee signs this deal. We're still chasing "toughness" and "grit" like the Canadian media wants, which is the exact wrong strategy.

That reminds me when the BLues signed freaking Jay McKee for like 4 mil @ 5 years in the mid 2000's.

Stars will push for the 4-6 spots in the West next year. The following year these guys come off the books:

Horcoff - $5.5 million
Gonchar - $5
Cole - $4.5

If we resign Spezza and Nill makes more great decisions with all that cap space, this is a Stanley Cup contending team in 2015-2016

@cotsonika: Lightning got Stralman for $7.5 million less than Capitals got Orpik over the same five-year term.

Also seeing that the Stars signed Anders Lindback to sit behing Kari. Keep grooming Campbell for just a bit longer down in the AHL.

If Campbell hadn't been injured last year I think they might have tried him out as Kari's backup this year.

I just hope Lindback gives us better play in relief of Kari than Ellis/Thomas.
