The NFL is close to bringing in more revenue per year than the MLB and NBA combined and players have to wait until their rookie contracts are up to make the big money (they can thank players like JaMarcus Russell for that)

How long will it be before kids start flocking towards baseball and basketball as kids instead of football because there is more money to be made in those 2 sports?

The NBA and MLB also have few players so the chance of them making a team is lower.

Apples and Oranges. Length of season matters, practice time matters, player safety matters.

not for a not-neligible chance of serious injury or paralysis, or a start of chronic brain trauma

If NFL players don't get the 12 players vs 50+ part of contracts, then the roids and head shots have caused them to go retarded.

NBA players deserve to make more money than NFL players. It's far more difficult to make the NBA than it is to make the NFL. The bigger issues are the franchise tag that restricts free agency, no fully guaranteed contracts and the lack of benefits.

MLB players get a $34,000/year pension after 43 days in the big leagues. If they play 10 years, they get a $100,000/year pension. NBA players get $57,000/year pension if they play at least three years in the NBA. NFL players get $470/month for every year they play in the NFL. A NFL player will have to play six years in the NFL just to match the pension that MLB players get for playing 43 days in the majors. and they'll have to play at least ten years to match the pension plan for NBA players with three years of service. Also, MLB players get free health care for life after one day in the majors. NFL players only get free health insurance for five years after retirement and players with less than three years of service aren't qualified to receive any health care at all. It's a complete joke.

I'd say boycott all sports until tickets to a game is $10 each. And cable bill is $30/month again.

As someone else said, there are significantly more NFL players than both sports so the chances of becoming an NFLer are much better that becoming an NBA player or a MLB player.

I agree, but they put the blame on players like Russell and Sam Bradford.

The owners said the system needed to be fixed when a bust such as JaMarcus Russell could make $37 million guaranteed and Sam Bradford, the last No. 1 overall pick under the old CBA, could get $50 million guaranteed before playing a snap.

So let's assume this is true. In an average season, NBA players make 5.15 Mill. MLB players make 3.2 mill. And NFL players make 1.9 mill. I'd say baseball it's holding its own.

so do NBA players. the NBA instituted a rookie cap in the 90s because you had some of the same griping going on re: unproven rookies being paid what All Stars were making.

well, the NBA gave a model, but I guess NFL players can "blame" themselves or the NFLPA if they want to blame someone. and let's not act as though similar things with second tier NFL players getting big deals doesn't happen during their own free agency period. we've seen teams bet on "up and coming" QBs, WRs and pass rushers who never made the leap to be stars.

I think NFL has less practice time over a calendar year

Now we're into apples and oranges

Yea I can almost guarantee that NFL players have to be with their team less than NBA players.

There's 88 or so games minimum counting preseason and thats not counting practice time, travel time or preseason camps.

NFL players only "work" 4 days on a game week and at least one of those days is a light walk through half day.

NBA players pretty much have to be with the team almost every day between Oct 31 and April 10 or so during the season.
