People watch the CWS without LSU? I used to before the NCAA effectively ruined it with the bats and this cavernous park. Can't bring myself to watch it unless LSU is there now.

When Kyle Schwarber and Sam Travis hit absolute monster shots for Indiana about three years ago that landed at the warning track that told you all about you needed to know about the stadium.

I actually like pitcher's duels but I just can't get engaged in the CWS this year and it's not because LSU isn't in it. It's just missing the mark for some reason.

Yesterday's Coastal/TCU game in prime time had 763,000 viewers.

yep and it was weather delayed and then aired on a different channel without any indication of where to find it.

that does not help the ratings

and costal is a small little school with a very small following.

Pitcher's duels are great when it's an actual pitcher's duel with great pitching and defense. Not just some clown lobbing meatballs over the plate that get caught on the track.

I don't know if it is the new park or what, but it does seem scoring runs is so damm difficult.

Isn't the park the same size but the wind tends to blow in as opposed to out now?

Once teams reach Omaha, the emphasis is placed on good pitching and defense. They aren't going to score as many runs as they do elsewhere so the team that doesn't give up cheap runs has the advantage. In 6 of the 8 games, so far, the team with the fewest errors has won. The park doesn't play like most college ball parks and the teams have to adjust their game to compensate. Its still college baseball, so I have watched every game.

What most people who haven't been to a game in the new stadium don't know is it is built down in a hole, almost literally. It's built on the lowest elevation in the city of Omaha next to the Missouri River. It used to be a swamp that served as overflow when the river was high. Fans look up from their seats in the stadium at the surrounding area in downtown Omaha.

Compare that to Rosenblatt which was built on top on the highest hill nearest downtown Omaha. You could see for 20 miles over the prairie. The ball almost always had a wind assist either blowing out to right or left field towards the north or west during the afternoon and evening in June. In the new stadium when there is some wind blowing, the way TDA is aligned, the ball flies into the prevailing wind which usually blows from the south in June.

Having been built on an old swamp and landfill, the new stadium is plagued with mosquitoes and gnats. I haven't watched any games this year, but last year when I went to Omaha, the players were constantly having to swat the bugs away. I brought bug repellent with me to each game, even the afternoon games.

I despise the new stadium's location.

I would venture to say it takes much more controlled skill, game planning, and patience to win games in the CWS now as compared to gorilla ball where even an average hitter could get lucky and crank one over the fence.

The problem is they went too far and now Pitchers are the ones getting lucky. They can make a mistake with a pitch and the hitter blasts it, but it's now just an fly ball out. I keep witnessing this in the CWS the last few years and that's why the teams that can bunt and run are the ones winning. There should be balance between gorilla ball and small ball.

That is fairly accurate, people say the park plays dead, it shouldn't matter a huge amount if a team a team has a multiple approach to run generation instead of relying on HRs. It is a pitchers park if a team has a strong outfield. That said, Luken Baker for TCU drilled a home run to RF into a stiff wind blowing in last night and the pitch was up and outside. He also hit a 3 run HR to LF that was inside and down the prior game. It helps to be 6"5" and 265 lbs but he is still a freshman and has hit I think 5 HRs in post season play. Alonso for UF hit a monster HR, if the ball is well hit with the new ball it has a reasonable chance of going out but no cheap shots.

People pointing to Coastal having hit no HRs, they have been hitting many extra base hits in the gaps. The HRs they hit at LSU weren't exactly buried deep in the bleachers so looks like they are being smart with what they do. They killed themselves base running last night, it was about as comedic as some of the Tigers blunders, I didn't think CCU's pitching would match up well vs the other CWS teams.

OSU is playing some really good ball. It's just a different kind game in Omaha, one can appreciate it for what it is, and the glaring thing is that good outfield arms are instrumental in limiting guys on the base paths on hard hit balls, not exactly something LSU displayed this year.

I haven't watched a single pitch. I used to look forward to this event every year.

Nowadays, if the Tigers aren't playing, I'm not watching.

TCU with 7 sac bunts this season prior to cws. They were actually talking about that last night. Not certain how many bunts in cws play but not many for tcu

I guess I just meant small ball in general, I.e. The ability to move the players around, good base running, etc. Maybe TCU is one of the exceptions as they've actually been able to hit home runs, but the pitchers still aren't being punished for their mistakes which isn't the intent of the game.

I stopped watching this event when they changed bats and LSU was eating popcorn at home. I've watched it a little this year and it has been boring as shite to watch. Not something worth turning on your TV for. You have to be at the game to have fun.

The year UCLA beat us we were knocking the shite out of him (he was not a good pitcher) at least 4 balls would have been out of all SEC parks including Hoover.

Moving to the new stadium along with the new bats destroyed the CWS.

When the stadium architect (on air 2 CWS ago) admits he should have rotated the stadium 90° to accommodate the wind, you know it will be a mess. That and just the Rosenblatt "charm." It was real baseball, not "corporate baseball."

I thought TCU won their 1st game with a 3 run homer in the 9th.
