Tigers win was much more of a cultural shift with longer standing impact then Jordan's will be. With tigers win a whole slew of fans that had never been part of golf were interested and brought to the game.
Everybody was looking for Michael Jordan moments and Tiger delivered. Golf was not something that was part of everyday life. It's was viewed as an old white man sport, but On Monday after the masters I remember the African Americans in my class being so pumped up Tiger won and they were not golf fans. He had fans from every walk of life.
He went to a course that barely let black people in the gate and dominated. He dominated so much that the power people of Augusta National went in with a extensive remodel to Tiger proof the course.
Jordan Spieth is a phenomenal player and putter but his Masters will not be remembered in the same vain as Tigers first.
Tiger literally crushed the field in his. Won by 12 strokes, out drove everybody, and looked so much better then the other players.

That first sentence is kind of speculative.
How can you know that?

How about this. In my opinion, in twenty years Tigers win will be viewed like I said as a cultural shift that in many ways launched golf around the globe.
While Jordans Spieths will be viewed as a launching point for a wonderful career he puts together but won't have the same kind of Impact that Tigers did.
Just my opinion.

The "Tiger" proofing actually backfired. By adding so much length to so many par 4s, they actually made it so only the bombers could really play it consistently.
Big hitters like Bubba, Phil and Tiger have won 8 Masters since the "Tiger" proofing. I think Dustin Johnson, Rory, will win a few.
Immelmann and Zach johnson were outliers. The hardest hole relative to par is often #12. It is also the shortest hole.
The ball will probably not be allowed to technologically advance from here so scoring may stabilize. The top golfers in the world are amazing. It is recreational players, like me, that need every advantage we can get- and play it forward!

I'm not trying to get in a fight about it, just saying it's hard to know what was going to happen then, like it's hard to know what will happen with Spieth.
I hope he has as good of a career as Tiger. But you're right, Tiger's career will always stand out as the most impactful in history.

Tiger did it on a weekend in which Augusta was playing MUCH more difficult. There were tons of low numbers this week and the greens were maybe the most "attackable" as I can remember for Augusta.
Not to diminish what Spieth did, but what Tiger did was just fricking silly.
-22 on his last 63 when Augusta was playing hard as shite is tough to beat.
Spieth is a rock though. Kid has an insane future.

Tiger in his prime just wasn't fair.

Most dominant would imply dominating most of the time.
So Tiger DIDN'T dominate MOST of the time????

Young Jordan dominated the whole time.
He didn't Sunday. He played steady but far from dominant.....
Its 97 Tiger and its not that close.... Tigers Masters in 97 lifted him to superstardom. Jordan this year ...Not so much........

Because that's what happened. Golfs popularity skyrocketed after that Masters............

Tiger winning by 12 had more to do with the poor quality of the field. The fields are better and far Deeper now

No shite. I mean there were golfers publicly whining and crying in the media after Tiger's win in 97 that Augusta had to do something to the course to change it or they wouldnt be able to compete with him. Tiger laid such an arse beating on the field that pro golfers wanted the course changed.
I dont see any Jordan-proofing of Augusta National in the future

Spieth is a wonderful player and I wish him all the luck in the world. He is not considered a bomber and put on a putting display for the ages. He showed maturity beyond his years by sleeping on the masters lead wire to wire and not imploding.
However, when I think of most impressive I think about margin of victory relative to the field. If the other guys are struggling and your dominating the field then I say that's more impressive.
In 1997 Tiger beat Tom Kite by 12 strokes.
In 1965 Jack Nicklus beat Arnold Parmer and Gary Player by 9 strokes.
In 1976 Raymond Floyd beat Ben Crenshaw by 8 strokes.
In 1955 Cary Middlecroft beat Ben Hogan by 7 strokes
In 1964 Arnold Parmer beat Jack Nicklaus by 6 strokes.
That's the top 5 in margin of victory.
Therefore as far as how impressive Jordan's Speith's win by 4 is. I would put it between Raymond Floyd and Cary Middlecroft. I'm accounting for age and having to sleep on the lead. I don't think he's ready to be in the conversation with Tiger and Jack Nicklaus. But he might be in years to come.

And he missed the cut.
This years field was more impressive from top to bottom imo.

And he finished 3rd in the Masters the year before, (1996), and 7th the year before that, (1997).
So it isnt like it was some bum version of Phil that played in 1997 that had yet to achieve any success on the PGA tour. In fact, he had just one his 10th PGA tournament a couple of weeks before the 97 Masters at Bay Hill.
It speaks to how difficult the course was in 97 that Phil didnt even make the cut
