I'm really thinking that we're going to keep price. With the way we've been playing, it'll take a ridiculous deal to trade him, IMO.

Especially since they can trade him in the offseason for a package around 1 elite prospect

If the Pirates make a deal for Lester, it will have to occur before his start tomorrow so he can take his next turn for Pittsburgh, reports MLB.com’s Tom Singer. The Bucs are not willing to part with prospects Tyler Glasnow, Nick Kingham, Jameson Taillon, Josh Bell, or Austin Meadows in a deal. But the team would consider dealing Alen Hanson or JaCoby Jones, and Singer says that outfielder Jose Tabata is a “wild card” in discussions, which could potentially expand to include Mike Carp or one of several Boston relievers.

Man there are zero real hitters available at this deadline. Rios is terrible as is Willingham.
The mediocre Byrd stands tall as the elite bat (just don't let him play the field).

Latest rumor is the Rays seriously considering dealing Price to the Cardinals for Taveras, Shelby Miller, and that compensatory draft pick they got that pissed Theo Epstein off.

IF this is true and has merit, it explains the Pirates allegedly offering their top 2 OF prospects to the Red Sox for 2 months of Lester. Because if the Cards get Price, facing either Wainwright/Price/Wacha or Kelly in a playoff series against the Cards or Kershaw/Grienke/Ryu in a series against the Dodgers and lining up Liriano/Cole/Morton against them...well...they may as well just enjoy the regular season.

If Javier Baez has to move off shortstop due to the presence of Russell or Starlin Castro, the Cubs see him as more of a second baseman than a third baseman. Chicago has played Baez at second base quite a bit following the All-Star break, and Epstein called the transition “seamless.”

The Yankees are looking at the second tier of starting pitchers rather than focusing on front-line arms, reports ESPN’s Buster Olney, and one player they’ve discussed is Rockies left-hander Brett Anderson (Twitter link).

I think I would have to take that deal if I was the Rays. Even though Miller has been abysmal this year.

Well they system they have now to determine who gets a pick is stupid. Not saying you did, but i still don't understand why cardinals fans got so bent out of shape about what he said.

These compensatory small-market draft picks in general piss me off. Every MLB team has sufficient resources to build whatever team they want.
There are no poor teams - no teams close.

yea, felt like 'rabble rabble, theo mentioned the cardinals burn the witch.'

Read like a compliment to me (in regards to how well theo thought the cards ran their organization to where giving them extra picks is unnecessary).

Also yes, they do.

I cannot see the Dodgers doing that. They have 3 more than solid starters right now that could push them into the WS. Their problem has been an inconsistent offense.

The Dodgers are interested in Joaquin Benoit, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (on Twitter), but the Padres would prefer not to trade him within the division. It doesn’t sound like they’re completely ruling out the idea of moving Benoit, however, as one source told MLB Daily Dish’s Chris Cotillo yesterday that there’s a good chance Benoit is traded even after San Diego dealt Huston Street.

The Indians and Cardinals have agreed to a deal that will send Justin Masterson to St. Louis, Peter Gammons reports (on Twitter). Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that top outfield prospect James Ramsey is headed to Cleveland (Twitter link).

Masterson should be a bit better but
quote:

Masterson’s fastball velocity has declined significantly this season, falling from an average of 91.6 mph in 2013 to 89.1 in 2014. However, Masterson’s now former pitching coach Mickey Callaway said earlier in the month that he felt Masterson’s knee injury had altered his mechanics, which could explain the dip in velocity as well as the increase in walks.

Wow, Mo taking the Indians garbage

First it was Kottaras, now Masterson, and they gave up a B prospect for him also.

Guy is a 5th at best, who's been bad, and was horrible in his first game off the DL. Not bad, horrible.

Mo seems out of his league at times. I'd love to see what Jocketty could do with the Cardinals surplus of talent. He could pull the big deals and with the top tier talent(tavarez, martinez, miller ,etc) he would have to deal, love to see who he could pull.
