Cardinals are not dealing for Price, Hamels, or Lester now....

Cardinals would be better off trying to obtain someone who could add some hitting like a Rios or Bryd who will upgrade their current roster while not having to give up A+ prospects

I hope this year's deadline isn't a snoozer like last year.

well he isn't and ace or a #2/3 IMO... owns a career 4.56 ERA. was decent last year but horrible the year before and this year

Cardinals should sell and only buy for a bat or a #1/#2 starter behind waino.

Motte has value
Martinez has a lot of value
Neshek has had a great year, sell high

Team has a ton of offense woes, and craig, holliday, etc won't be moved. dont get rid of tavarez for a rental, not everyone tears the league up in their first 3 months.

The Rangers are willing to eat some of the remaining salary on Alex Rios‘ deal, but talks could still go down to the wire, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (via Twitter). Rosenthal hears that interest from several Rios suitors — including the Indians, Giants, Reds and Royals — has waned of late.

Agree, this team doesn't have what it takes to win it this year, and probably won't even make the playoffs.

The farm system is starting to get bare, need to call it a year and work to replenish it a bit.

Adding Masterson was also fricking pointless

I hate this type of mentality. They have as good as chance as anyone in the NL... even with their hitting struggles.

That's unfortunate. It doesn't change facts though.

Our farm system is dwindling with all of our best prospects being called up. None of them proving to be anything special as of yet either.

The team is comprised of hitters 1-8 in career slumps other than Matt Adams.

Pitching is having significant issues as of late and the uncertainty if Wacha will return and be able to contribute.

Molina on the DL until the playoffs

On top of that they have pieces they could move to benefit the future when all of these issues aren't compiled. The Cardinals have been able to sustain success by making smart decisions. This would be a smart decision based on the state of the franchise at this moment.

Orioles Closing In On Deal For Jon Lester
By Steve Adams [July 30, 2014 at 2:16pm CDT]
The Orioles are in advanced talks that would send a pitcher to Boston in exchange for Jon Lester, reports Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe (on Twitter). MLB.com’s Britt Ghiroli tweets that the two sides are “close” to a deal.

You just don't give up in the middle of pennant race when your odds are just as good as everyone else's.

There's two more months to try and right ship. They can struggle hitting for the next month and a half and get hot just at the right time heading into the playoffs.

I think it's crazy talk to even consider selling.

What's the word on the Ramsey kid that the Tribe got in return? Looking at it briefly, it looks as if this season was the first that he has been able to put it all together of sorts. What's the ceiling for this guy?

Also, Trey, Asdrubal has got to be gone now right?

The Cubs have acquired Felix Doubront from the Red Sox, tweets Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. Jon Morosi of FOX Sports first reported (on Twitter) that a deal was close.

The Red Sox will receive a player to be named later in return for the 25-year-old lefty, Jim Bowden of ESPN.com reports on Twitter.

Miguel Gonzalez could be heading to Boston in the deal, Ghiroli tweets. Clearly, he wouldn’t be the centerpiece of the trade.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post tweets that a deal isn’t close at this time, although Roch Kubatko of MASNsports.com tweets that talks are indeed heating up. Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports also tweets that nothing is close to finalization at this point, though that doesn’t preclude a deal from being reached. Andy Martino of the New York Daily news also hears that a deal is possible, but not close at this time (Twitter link).

Kubatko adds that Boston has been asking for Kevin Gausman or Dylan Bundy in talks

You can sell and improve your club.

True. Let me fix that.

I think it's crazy to give up now and start selling.

what is that even in response to? I don't see my comment saying that?

That about Price? where they have a chance to improve their club although not for this season?

I think the point is selling is better than what they did. I imagine if Mo had the balls to make a real deal when he's giving away real talent and gotten a legit #1/#2 pitcher, I would be all in for making a run this year. This move makes zero sense.

My prediction...Masterson isn't even in the rotation by the end of the year. He was Cleveland's 5th-7th best starter in nearly every statistical category. The guy only gets through about 5 innings a start. We already have plenty of that. Oh, and he's a rental and he's coming off the DL?

WTF????

I hope the Rangers find a taker for Rios. I was shocked at the return we got for Soria so I'm hoping we get at least one fairly solid prospect
