Makes me wonder if the best value trade could be the CHC/ATL trade.

Feel like baseball has just begun. Loved watching my twitter timeline and the reactions yesterday.

Yeah Rays sold a little low.... wonder if no one was biting and that was the best deal they could get as deadline neared so they panicked.... now teams are kicking themselves because they could have offered better

Story running around in Pittsburgh today is that the Pirates were first in line for him, but the Rays wanted Marte, top OF prospect Josh Bell (now that Polanco is called up), and one of their top pitching arms (Glasnow or Kingham or Taillon depending on the story). Pirates, who wouldn't be able to resign Price after next season, told them to go get f'd so they turned to the Tigers/Mariners offer.

Who knows.

You know what the Pirates problem is, they're cheap. They're cheap in wanting to sign free agents and they're cheap in not wanting to trade away prospects. That's why they're a craphole who will always be stuck in mediocrity.

If they're waiting for Cole, Glasnow, and Taillon to carry that pitching staff, they'll be waiting for another 3-4 years at the minimum. By that time, McCutchen will be out of his prime and it's likely a couple of those prospects will flame out or just be average regulars.

The Pirates have to be one of the longest rebuilding franchises in sports history.

I agree. I honestly think that what they are settling for is a LOT of 86-76 types of seasons. A WC game here and there, barely miss the playoffs every couple of years, an NLDS every once in awhile and MAYBE an NLCS about every 7-10 years. Maybe.

In other words, be just good enough to keep fans coming and interested, but don't ever reach out there and take the chances and spend the money to get over that hump. Stay on the safe side where the margins are good and everybody is semi content.

what's everyones opinion about who really strengthened their team?
Tigers have a pretty sweet rotation.
Red sox gave up some decent sp talent - for decent bats - not sure about Craig.
Others?
