don't know anything about the situation so I can't say whether it's a wise decision but at least they're not just talking shite.

Great point, and whatever their point is, they couldn't be more civil about it than they're being now, so good for them on that front.

Stepping back, this is what you subject yourself to when you place undue importance on an extracurricular activity. There are millionaires who can lose their jobs if an 18-year-old kid with a learning disability drops a ball. Ironically, this gives a lot of power to the kid, and the kids are slowly realizing it.

I find that what's more interesting than whether or not the players here are right or wrong is that long-held power is being challenged, and why not? This is the country where you're most encouraged to do that.

They need to let them strike one game, jerk the scholarships Monday morning and then release a press statement that has only one work.."NEXT"

Then with the media backlash, mass firings come for all involved in that press release.

Otherwise, brilliant plan!

Really all I'm waiting for now is Al Sharpton to show up on campus and stir a race war up in Missouri like he always does. Who will foot the bill for Al's apperance?

The President of the University needs to deliver a clear ultimatum:If the student athletes do not return to practice by date xx/xx/xxxx and honor their scholarship then it will be pulled.

What the heck is going on up there? Is it all of them every sport or just a few disgruntled trying to speak for all? My old guys from StL have just kept quiet and are not saying much.

Most logical route but will absolutely not happen. I figure by Friday the school will cave in to all demands plus some more.

Really amazes me how we have pretty much conceded power to small groups of people.

It's a lose / lose situation for the school President. He should let the protester know that he has heard them but he is going nowhere. He should let them know that if they don't play, they will have their scholarships pulled for next year.

That is the rational, prudent way to handle this. Of course if he did that, the Rev Al and his pals will show up and eventually the school President will get pushed out by the Board just to shut everyone up.

As I said, absolutely crazy how we are now just conceding all power to small groups of wack jobs.

If you protest based on race, and scream loud enough, you can get anything. The merits of your argument are meaningless.

Is the basketball team going on strike? Or are they selling out since they have a good program?

Pinkle knows this is a potential recruiting goldmine. Imagine the message, "if you come to mizzou, you can do anything you want if you are black. Just say the authority is racist". He will get some real talent next year if this is resolved as I anticipate.

That would be dumb.

I dunno, that's how the real world works. These kids get a free ride to play football. They no longer play football. They should no longer get a free ride. Especially over a bullshite cause.

They have been on strike for past 2 seasons. No one knows the reasoning, just the results.

He's probably fired anyway. Already has a DUI on his record and now he's producing horrible results on the field. This season is toast anyway.

But if he stands behind the players, he can catch on somewhere else and use his handling of the Mizzou strike as an advantage in recruiting.

I seriously doubt he gets fired. He's behind the group with the ultimate weapon. Plus the boosters know he now will be elevated to one of the top recruiters in America.

How did Miami get all those great players from mid 80's to early 2000's? They sent the message to black players that you can literally do anything here with zero consequences.

The problem in this thread is that none of us really know ALL of the issues at hand, but so many have no problem assuming the worst because the group is black without stopping to think that maybe their arguments actually do have merit.
