Currently has 18 gold medals and 22 total medals, how much more can he add?
Greatest American swimmer of all-time? Greatest Olympian of all-time?

Probably less than the number of water borne diseases he gets in Brazil

How has he been doing in competition? I honestly have no idea. But I'd guess the world has caught up to him, and he won't swim many events. So 1.

He will still crank an individual medal in the 200 Fly and 400 IM. His sprint speed is a question mark...I do not know if he makes the 400 Free Relay...with that said, I say he cranks in three golds and a silver this Summer to culminate his career.

I am not knocking his record, but they should add running backwards and skipping so Bolt has a chance to keep up.

Phelps didn't even medal in the 400IM in London. That's a tough arse race and you have to train like crazy to compete in it. Phelps' less intense training for London compared to Beijing is what did him in during the 400IM in London. Lochte wanted that race so badly and worked his arse off and really crushed Phelps. Phelps will have a better chance to medal in the 200IM.

I do not agree. What Phelps has done in swimming is unmatched by runners outside of those that compete in the decathlon. He was the WR holder in the IM and Fly events while being elite in the middle distance freestyle. That diversity would be equivilent to begin the best at the 100m and 400m dash and the hurdles. Outside of Mark Spitz, no swimmer has dominated like this, and none can match the longevity. He qualified for the Olympics at age 15 in 2000 in the 200m Fly. Truly unmatched.

He was suspended last year for the Worlds by USA swimming but his time in the 200 butterfly was significantly better than what the winners had.

He will be very competitive in 100 fly, 200 fly, 200 IM and the three relays.

I'll predict 3 golds and 5 medals

My prediction is he'll swim 100 fly, 200 fly, 200 IM, 400 medley relay and one of the free relays. Medals in each one with 3 golds.

I don't think he's done the 400 IM since 2012. I doubt he'll want to swim all 3 relays and not sure whether the 400 or 800 free relays suits him better.

That's not very bright knowledge about swimming.

What has bolt done but run in a straight line?

Bolt isn't being held back in track in keeping up with Phelps

Bolt can compete in Phelps's discipline...

Bolt has the 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500, 110 hurdles, 400 hurdles, 4x100 relay, 4X400 relay, steeplechase...

He isn't being held back - he has multiple disciplines of speed and endurance and a broad range of skills and medals if he could master it. Just like swimmers and most who specialize like runners nut few who master all specialities.

This isn't the same as being able to do a Freestyle at X distance, then hop back into the pool, do a more inefficient stroke at the same distance of X, and get yet another medal for it.

A logically similar situation would be Bolt running the 100, then being able to run it backwards. Then Bolt run the 200M, then run it backwards, and so on.
