Now, if we somehow (with a miracle) beat both FSU AND Alabama in these next 2 weeks, and get left out?
Yeah, then I would be pissed.
If Iowa wins out, their resume will be as good or better than Florida's would be.

Exactly, and that's all that's needed this year.
I'm not saying Iowa is so impressive this year, I just don't think there is a "resume" that stands out more than any other this season. Weird year in college football.

Is this the same Massey that still has Ohio State at 4? I'm on board.

that is the SOS
the poll Kosmo posted is a conglomerate of all computer polls, in that Ohio State is #4

It doesn't matter where Iowa is ranked at all. If they win out, they are in. If they don't, then they are out. Really simple and no reason to get all butthurt about Iowa's ranking. If Iowa or MSU get the CFP, then the real controversy will be over OK or ND.

Those are some crappy systems btw that use preseason polls. Using CURRENT Top 25 teams and 8+ win teams, they are on par...which is perfectly acceptable, especially when you factor in the fact that are UNDEFEATED.
I hate SOS arguments. If you are in a P5 conference, and play P5 OOC games, you deserve to be rewarded.
But according to you all a 6-6 team who played the #1 SOS deserves some sort of consideration too.
LOSSES COUNT.

quote:There is a lot of parity in CFB right now. Not as much as CBB, but still a good bit. There are going to be a ton of 9-3 and 8-4 teams. Look at the Pac-12, AAC and SEC. It is really hard to have more than 2 wins on your schedule from top 25 teams.
Lol at Iowa being above Notre Dame and Mich St.

sure, of course, but its the principle.
teams with shite schedules shouldnt be rewarded in the poll until theyve proven something.
until Iowa wins the B1G they should not be in the top 4 (if the committee wants consistency)

Who is Iowa's top win...Northwestern? A team that is ranked below Notre Dame's highest ranked win right now. Can't discredit Navy then act like beating Northwestern is some amazing feat, either they are both solid wins or they are both overrated wins. Other than that Iowa has beat two teams with a pulse, Wisconsin and Pitt.
I watched the Wisconsin game and they are lucky that Wisconsin's offense was sleep walking and had numerous chances in the red zone and either turned it over or couldn't finish the drive. That may be a testament to their defense, but ask LSU you won't win against a top 15 team with your QB going 9/21 passing.
Pitt is a common opponent between Iowa and Notre Dame, and Notre Dame destroyed Pitt (though the touchdown with two minutes left made it look a lot closer than it actually was). For comparison Notre Dame put up over 100 more yards and Kizer accounted for 6 total touchdowns, twice the amount Iowa scored as a team against them.
Iowa may be undefeated but they aren't a good team. Hopefully Nebraska pulls the upset, but if not MSU might make OSU's demolition of Wisconsin last year in the Big 10 championship look like a mercy killing.

That is a pretty good win. A 30 point blowout over the #16 team in the country.

But they found a way to WIN.

That is a decent point to distinguish the 2 when they are have comparable W/L records. Right now though, they don't.

Yes they are. Objectively, they are. I have no horse in this race. But I have watched Iowa, and they are good. Not flashy by any means, but definitely solid.

What is hurting ND are the performances against lesser opponents recently. Struggling to score against Wake and BC doesn't look good. The fact still remains that unless there is a little chaos, the B1G and SEC have a spot secured. If there is all out chaos, there is no telling what teams will get in.

oh the classic eye ball test against one of the worst schedules in the modern football era.
teams full of 2 and 3 star scrubs with little NFL talent are not good
again, they are favored over Nebraska by one point - nebraska has six fricking losses (JUST LOL)

Probably 4th in Big XII also. They benefitted greatly by not facing the good teams in their conference. I think they lose at Nebraska this week.

What is the baseline for these SOS metrics you tout?
