Winnfield drops a close one to Jena but still finishes above .500 for the first time since 2015. Jay Watson has done a good job with not much to work with. The starting RBs are two white boys who tip the scales at under 145.

How about those 1-3A undefeated in district champs Loyola Flyers? 31-0 winners over Mansfield with some momentum and likely no worse than the 3 seed going into the Div II playoffs.

They haven’t shook hands with anyone all year after their jamboree scuffle.

That makes sense then. I was thinking either something like that, or just EA making sure none of their players did something stupid right before playoffs. I didn’t think it would be something like them being sore losers or anything. That’s not how Darnell Lee runs his program. Very understandable though.

Checking the power rankings after last night--Dutchtown draws Acadiana round 1 and STA draws Acadiana round 2. They also eliminated EA last year.

But if Dutchtown can pull off a miracle, you could get STA @ Dutchtown round 2.

Not sure if any games today affect 5A non-select rankings.

Yeah I think Jena went into the game thinking it was going to be a tune up for the playoffs. Not taking anything away from Winnfield but I’d be willing to bet if they played again today it wouldn’t be nearly as close.

I can't think of any more heated rivalry in this state than EA/St. Amant.

I love it.

EA is apparently not allowed to shakes hands because of an incident they had with another team. My sister tweeted coach Lee last night about it and he responded to her this morning.

Chalmette/Holy Cross rivalry is always a great rivalry too, even though HC has mostly owned the Owls over the years. If I remember correctly (from word of mouth), fans weren’t allowed in the stadium for around a decade because of fights and a gassing incident in the 70s or 80’s

I think Brother Martin/Curtis may have a little bit of an effect, but not much. Mostly for EA though. I think 5A is pretty much set.

I hate that we’re paired up with them. That was the team who eliminated us my senior year. No matter how their regular season goes, they just flip a switch come playoff time. They’ll wear you down and make you wanna give up. They’re brutal. They’ll kill any life or momentum you have, and fast too. But these teams STA have are a lot better than we ever were, so maybe we can get them if we have to play them.

We slowed down Dylan Sampson and Dutchtown whenever we played them, and EA had a really hard time running the ball on us last night. So we’re winning the LOS and playing more physical than the teams we’ve played as of late. To beat Acadiana, gonna have to be more physical than them and stick to our assignments. That veer is hard to beat whenever they execute it. I will say, EA and Dutchtown had a huge size advantage I thought, and those big boys could not hang with us.

One weird thing I just found out about this rivalry. I know Salt was our old coach and now HC head coach. I didn’t know Richard Walker on our coaching staff was a former head coach of Holy Cross. Learn something new every day… always knew Walker as the head coach of Hannan and De La Salle and of course his son was the Hannan QB and former Chalmette assistant and now head coach of Riverdale

Homer beat Haynesville 49-0 last night. Homer seems to have a really solid team this year considering both teams were top 10 in 1a before last night

I can’t believe that losing to #10 in the 5A power rankings will cost EA a home game. But the good thing for them is if they win, they’d draw Captain Shreve at home. That would be as winnable a game against a #2 at home as you could get. They beat them in the playoffs at home last year.

They’re a 3-loss team, but they’re to Scotlandville, Catholic and STA, all very good 5A teams. And they beat Woodlawn to boot.

WOW!! What has happened to the mighty Haynesville Tornados?

They used to be a regular power-house team.

It won't happen for a while. Its gonna take a few more lean years at WM for that to happen.
