i look at it this way.... he's not the "next" Jordan.... he's the first LeBron...

Jordan and James will go down as 1a and 1b in the GOAT discussion.... their respective games are vastly different so it's hard to compare them with the exact same stat lines, measurements, etc..... James is not the dominant scorer that Jordan was, just like Jordan was not the facilitator that James is.....

personally, i'm just happy that i can say i remember watching both of them in my lifetime....

I seriously doubt neutral people give a shite about the petty reasons you listed

I think this board's history provides plenty examples of petty reasons people don't like him.

Perfectly said. Exactly spot on. 2 totally different players

They already are top 2 ever I think. And LBJ has a good 5-6 years left. That is what scary.

I've never seen a sports star people were so anxious to name the GOAT. That's media, fans, and general viewers

It's not as much LeBron as it is out current "NOW" society, everything that just happened was THE BEST EVER or the worst ever and every player to win something big is automatically THE GOAT... It's annoying but it's just the way it is

However, LeBron is one of very few who actually has merit to be in the conversation

How dare you bring rational thoughts to this convo!!! You can only be the best ever or worst ever of all time!!

Not only are their games different...the era in which they played is VASTLY different.

Could you imagine Jordan's poker gatherings after games being plastered all over twitter?

How about him punching a teammate in practice during this era of social media and this commissioner?

He'd be lambasted today for taking free throws with his eyes shut.

Two different eras. Two different players.

my problem isn't with the Jordan James debate on the court. Let's forget the fact that Jurdan didn't win anything until a top 20 player EVER reached his full capabilities by his side. Jordan and Russell were the two greatest ever. Neither lost in their prime. And neither lost when it counted most.

That said, if we re talking about athletes OFF the court, James is superior to Jordan in almost every way. Jordan was feared and detested by teammates. He was a womanizer, cigar smoking, employee berating, gambling addict, who stayed up all night, who famously refused to take stands in all matters social and political in the name of protecting his dollar (granted different social climate). Lebron on the other hand, appears to have friends and is beloved around the NBA. He married his HS sweetheart. He s involved in his hometown charities.

Jordan killed two coaches before getting Phil Jackson. One of them is in all time great. Lebron has never gotten a coach fired. Even one (cough, mike brown) to be WAY over his head to the finals.

Jordan was a sociopath. Still is. The jury is out on Lebron. But if we re talking about role models? It's not even close.

Jordan never missed any shot, ever. Didn't you know?

I'd argue that Jordan has proven he could be that type of player LeBron is. Early on his career he did at least. During the championship runs, he didn't need to with pippen being able to do a great job
