Was a great GC battle while it lasted but we still have the Vuelta to look forward to. It could be a barn burner for the overall with Roglic, Remco, Geraint and Ayuso.

Jonas was just better this time. The load of the spring season and the other marginal gains tilted it towards Jonas and away from Pog, sure. But I think Phil is downplaying the magnitude of what we saw yesterday. Phil's arguing in the comments that improving tech, nutrition, recovery, etc. is why we're seeing superhuman efforts. That's fine and it makes some sense. But when you compare apples to apples, what Jonas is doing is an enormous anomaly. Tech improvements don't make someone gap generational riders like they're standing still in a way that no one's ever done.
Again, I don't care one bit. It seems too good to be true, but it's damn entertaining. Hell I think Lance should get his 7 tours back. Because at the end of the day you still have to get out there and ride the bike better than anyone else and that's what Jonas is doing.

i just did something radical on my TDF fantasy team. i dumped pog
with 4 days left; 3 of which favor the sprinters; I decided to give up on the last mountain stage and pack my team with sprinters. i have enough credit for one last swap which i'll save for stage 20 after the dust clears from these next 2 stages.
btw i won today's stage by dumping philipsen yesterday but i need him back for the next 3/4 stages!
even at #2 on the podium (for now) pog isn't bringing in enough points if he's not in the top 3-4 riders and he seems gassed.
i could be screwed if he pulls a floyd landis on the last mountain stage but i think if philipsen wins tomorrow that will give me enough points to keep my position.

That was a good move. Pog gave what little he had left yesterday and it was a damn fine showing. Need to join a fantasy league next year. Can’t believe The Tour is almost over already (even if the Yellow IS most likely over now)

Agree. These stages are where the not so ‘funded’ teams fight for any air time they can get and guys that want a stage go for it all. Will still be fun to watch.
On another note, I hope after the Tour Ben O’Connor or AG2R reach out and have a pizza with the man that was making woodfire pizzas and ran out to offer one to him

That is the same argument that Team Sky apologists made before we learned about jiffy bags, abuses of TUEs, and Froome’s Salbutamol positive.
I mean, even a beloved racer like Nairo couldn’t be bothered to try hard enough not to get DQed for his positive for Tramadol. Now, Jonas isn’t beating the pants off the field just using Tramadol…but Phil is either being naive or cynical. My bet is the latter…he’s always done his best to appeal to casuals, non racers, and Freds with his schtick.

I'm wondering if they will pull Pogacar out - he's saying he's 'dead', not looking good as if he's sick or something. Might be over-trained after a long season. Going another four stages is certainly not going to help him if he's over-trained. I wonder what his waking HR looks like over the past month.

Pog obviously had to adjust his training plan after the injury so that could be a huge factor.
But doping always has to be considered as well. It's no secret that if you get it wrong, things can go bad. Manzano of Puerto fame was given a novel substance before a Tour stage and fell off his bike during a climb if I remember correctly (a la Tom Simpson in the sixties).
I've always figured that Basso looking a lot worse than Pog today then losing pink at the 2003 Giro was doping gone wrong because he came back later in the race and blasted a power climb to victory.

insane. peloton playing games and left those guys in front way too long. should have been philipsen's stage in a landslide. how do you not close 9 seconds on 4 gassed riders with 2 KM to go? 
eta those 4 guys even stopped pedaling with a 5 second gap and the peloton STILL didn't close on them.
