I would not be surprised at all if OKC fires Brooks

Where did this even come up in discussion? He's been solid since he's been there. You think they'd can him after this series (assuming they lose)? I wouldn't think so considering what he's brought to the organization.

If we used SB as the coaching barometer, a sh*tload of coaches would be out on their arse; McHale included.

Not really directed at you. But wtf does this even mean? You hear this all the time about other coaches. I've never understood it.

He played for like 12 different NBA teams during his career.

quote:

NBA player Kevin Durant in an interview with Grantland said that Kevin Ollie (who played for Oklahoma City Thunder in 2009-2010) "taught him the ropes", and "changed the culture of Oklahoma City". He also said, “Kevin Ollie, he was a game changer for us. I think he changed the whole culture in Oklahoma City. Just his mind set, professionalism, every single day. And we all watched that, and we all wanted to be like that. It rubbed off on Russell Westbrook, myself, Jeff Green, James Harden. And then everybody who comes through now, it’s the standard that you’ve got to live up to as a Thunder player. And it all started with Kevin Ollie

quote:

Ollie had previously played a similar role with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Jim Paxson, Cavaliers GM at the time, recalled his motivation for signing Ollie: "We thought he could come in and be a bridge for us at the point guard position," Paxson recalled, "and also be a good influence on our younger players, the primary one being LeBron James." Paxson cited Ollie's "professionalism and approach to the game" as qualities the team valued.

A first round exit with the MVP and another top 10 player on your roster? His offense being openly mocked nightly.

Brooks is gone if they lose and I wouldn't be surprised if a lot changes in OKC if they lose tonight.

Fair enough...but that can't be the same for all these other coaches that you hear the same about. Sometimes I just think that phrase is overused across sports. Along the same lines as "this guy is the first to show up and the last to leave" and "one of the really good guys in sports."

Lakers should have hired Brian Shaw a couple of years back. That still irks me.

Dude's been to the Finals once, Conf Finals twice and knocked out first round once (maybe twice after tonight) and only missed the playoffs his first year. Not to mention competing for top in the West every year.

Besides the Pops and Phil Jackson's of the world, that record is damn impressive. For such a small market, who could they reasonably expect to get? Perkins contract was a bonehead move on their part FWIW and it's probably hurting them.

Shaw has been awful in Denver.

It's a completely different team from Karl's last year. They don't have Iggy or Gallinari, two of their top scorers, and lost Andre Miller and Corey Brewer. Their best players are Lawson, Faried and Chandler.

Also, Shaw would have been a better fit for what L.A. wants to do. He played and coached under Phil Jackson and would have been a much better fit for a Kobe/Howard/Pau core with a heavily triangle-based offense. The Lakers personnel simply didn't fit D'Antoni's offensive philosophy.

Plus Denver has had an outrageous number of injuries this season.

You're right that he'd be a better fit but they'd only have been marginally better last year and doubt he would have had any major impact on Dwight or the future of the team. Thinking about all this reminds of how much the MSB loved the D'Antoni hire. Not on the level of the Harden trade reaction but close.
