Julius Thomas is taking winning for granted here. He's going to regret this move. Losing sucks.

You're looking at it completely from a fan perspective. This guy was playing for relative peanuts(less than 1.5 M total over 4 years before taxes). He has his one definite opportunity to cash in at 26 right now. He'd be insane not to. He can worry about winning later.

a young pass catching TE doesn't fit the offense.... explain that one.
Maybe you should research the zone blocking scheme a little bit. Julius Thomas wouldn't be able to line up at tight end in base packages because he CANNOT block. He would have to be spread out wide.
quote:

As a blocker Thomas is far from the prototype. The recent renaissance of the receiving tight end has made run and pass blocking an afterthought at the position and this was clear in Thomas’ 2013 season. That year his -11.5 run blocking grade was the second-worst at the position. While he was overpowered at times, the bulk of his grade came from shoddy form. Thomas frequently overextended himself and took poor angles of attack, whiffing on far too many simple blocks. That’s why his improvement to a +0.1 grade last year is encouraging.

He cut down on his number of -1.0 graded run blocks from 22 in 2013 to just seven a year ago with vast improvements in technique. It’s also worth noting that it didn’t come as the result of a Grahamesque switch to mostly wide receiver. He still spent 493 of his 715 snaps inline last season. At his size he’ll never be a crushing blocker you can trust to handle a defensive end on every play, but is willing and capable still provides value with his receiving skills.

Gronk has missed a lot of games, Graham has missed a lot of games.... yet you are still talking about Thomas as a top 3-5 TE in the game right now and the offense doesn't need him?
Again, point to where I said Denver didn't "need" him. I have said I would love to have him back, but not at the asking price he wants. And I especially wouldn't want him back if we had to overpay for a one dimensional game.

Do you really feel the offense will change much with Manning at QB?
More so than any other time in his career, yes.

I understand a zone blocking scheme, however, Thomas is such a unique talent he creates mismatched in every single system he is in. Much like Graham, Gates, every pass catching TE before him blocking isn't their greatest assets as long as they can occasionally block.

and the point I made was I am sure Denver reached out to him this off-season and they probably talked numbers at some point but nothing was close so they didn't make a formal offer, doesn't mean they didn't make any offer.

That offense will bend over backwards for Manning they will not force a HoF QB coming back for one last chance a Superbowl to change offenses he is comfortable in. Will they adopt some zone blocking yes, but it will not be a drastic change and Manning will control that offense.

Julius Thomas can't even do that.

All that matters.

Hearsay.

I bet you would have said the same thing about John Elway when Mike Shanahan was hired...

Again, putting words in my mouth.

I simply said the offense will change more so now than any other time in his career.

ok Shanahan was hired in 95, Elway was already there it wasn't until they started riding Davis in 97/98 that Denver won a Superbowl the previous years Denver went 8-8 and then a 1st round exit.... Did the offense change? a bit much like it would with Manning but it did not completely reinvent itself until Davis established himself and even then the offense was still similar as Elway threw a ton until 98

I'm really interested to see him in particular without Manning. People think this guy is a top 3 TE and just from numbers, yes, he was good. But I just don't see it.

Neg, Raiders were never high on Thomas, we'll take a cheaper option like Gresham been linked to him for days now. We like Rivera in house as well, no need to overspend at TE.

quote:

@caplannfl #Raiders have interest in TE Jermaine Gresham, source said. Not as much as first thought on Julius Thomas.

Lot of people around the league aren't high on Thomas outside of Denver either.

Yeah, sounds like Giants for him right now.

We lead for Hudson right now and Gresham.

Yet again, this is only for 8 games out of the year, I think you guys are starting to blow this out of proportion.

Oakland will likely sign Terrence Knighton (due to his connection with Jack Del-Rio), Jermaine Gresham, and then overpay for someone that is overlooked by a bunch of other teams.

The Philly Eagles and NY Giants like Rahim Moore, Orlando Franklin is signing with the SD Chargers, Devin McCourty is signing with either the NY Giants or Philly Eagles, Jeremy Maclin will likely resign with the Philly Eagles or Kansas City Chiefs and Rodney Hudson will only sign with the Oakland Raiders if the Kansas City Chiefs let him go.

They have to keep him. A combination of Jordan Matthews and Riley Cooper is not a good WR corps.
