What's the problem here? This happens all the time in Georgia.

under LHSAA rules, a kid not living with a custodial parent - must have resided with that person for 1 year to be eligible.
among a couple of other things.

Not in the Catholic League, but JC beat Curtis in the state champ game.

Why was he living with the coach? I'm assuming LHSAA has an impermissible benefits rule like the NCAA does, and living with a coach, if the coach is supporting the kid in any way, and the kid is not related to the coach, and the kid is playing for the same team that the coach works on... I can see that being a pretty big issue.
Eligibility is something that has to be initially established, but it also has to be maintained.

*****I know I live in River Ridge. I have absolutely no affiliation with Curtis, and love to make fun of them as much as I can. But, it is ridiculous what the LHSAA is doing right now

JT is a good, Christian, God fearing man. He's a leader of men

Hold your horses. I'm asking questions and saying this could be bad. I'm not saying it is bad. There may be a perfectly good reason for all of this.
But given all of the split talk and given all of the pressure on the LHSAA and given how many schools hate JC, we need to make sure this is handled correctly.

This has long been the rule for eligibility. Living with family members that did not have custody of me cost me 2 of my 4 years of HS eligibility......

Not surprising, a lot of shady shite has gone on there.
You should read the kids story before passing judgment on him or JT Curtis.
Willie was already attending Curtis before he moved in with the coach. Allen would get up at 5am in the morning in order to get to school on time and have to take a bus home after practice. His OL coach took him in because it was what was best for the kid. I applaud him and LHSAA should be fricking ashamed of themselves.

llen hates water. He has for a decade, ever since his family—his other family—ignored evacuation instructions in August 2005 and remained in its home in New Orleans's Calliope Projects. Hurricane Katrina was about to flush waves of water (some from the same lake upon which Allen now floats) into the city, and by the time the 8-year-old, his mother, siblings and grandparents set out for the Superdome, eight feet of flooding stood in their path. Allen was a weak swimmer, but his older brother, Floyd, helped steer him through the debris and dead bodies.
quote:
Allen hated New Orleans. On that August day, the flooding claimed all he owned but the clothes on his back. The hurricane forced a second-grader to contend with more sorrow than most people handle in a lifetime. It forced him to watch suicides in the Superdome, to wonder if he would find Floyd after the 16-year-old was separated from family on buses to Houston. It abandoned him to a green cot in the Astrodome for weeks, made him hate Chick-fil-A since he associates boxes of the sandwiches with those days of homelessness.
quote:
The day, a year later, when Allen's mother told him the family was returning to New Orleans, he cried. He thought he had escaped for good. He wanted to be anywhere but stuck between that lake and that river. Now, though, a decade later, grown from a worried kid into one of the premier offensive linemen in the 2016 recruiting class, Allen is staying. He committed to play football at LSU on Jan. 21, picking the program an hour down the road over offers from Miami, Auburn and TCU, among more than 30 others. He could have escaped, could have turned on the place that once turned on him. But apart from that boat, Allen is fearless. There is nothing to run from anymore.

Ah, it Georgia we just have the parents sign over custody and they are good to go. (not that I have done this before).

Not knocking him or JT Curtis at all, I was just stating how the school itself operates.
To think academics are at the forefront at Curtis is absolutely laughable.
It's a football school...nothing more, nothing less.
Posted on 8/30/16 at 11:48 am to JS87
Let's not kid ourselves. Kids aren't going to Curtis for the education.
Willie was there to play football, Curtis did what they had to to ensure he stayed there and played.

That's not entirely true.
It's a small school, run by a single family. They take in a lot of kids who can't handle academic life at larger schools, and are asked to leave. Not every one thrives at a AAAAA or AAAA enrollment-sized school. I know of a couple.

Seems misguided... Chick-fil-a provided food to the hungry... He should be out stumping for them.

Pretty fricked up based on the info in that article
The story was written by Ed Daniels. There are like 4 or 5 quotes from J.T. Curtis.
Oh, by the way, be sure to watch "Friday Night Football" on WGNO, hosted for the last 25 years by Ed Daniels and his good friend, J.T. Curtis!
There are no quotes or statements from any LHSAA representatives. Lemme guess--"they could not be reached for comment."
After reading the entire "article" again, it's obvious that this is a preemptive strike by Curtis to win public opinion and put public pressure on the LHSAA before the hearing. I mean, he did nothing wrong! Just ask Ed Daniels! Fricking Nazis--I bet that chick from Winnfield started it!

The lhsaa could make john curtis forfeit all of their regular season games this season and they'd still make the playoffs and win the state championship.
