Jay Roth doesn't facilitate the hold back of athletes for athletic purposes.
He can't offer parents a job at rummel like the curtis's can either
Does he recruit? Yea, I'm sure. Not as blatant as coach Corey used to though
At catholic schools the hold backs happen long before they get there always have

So if a teenager tanks a year of academics, he still has to be passed because he plays football?

the rule used to be 8th grade... then schools were creating 8+ programs
no. kids can still fail, but that has to be the reason why they hold back, not that they're actually passing and want a year to grow bigger and stronger
and besides if they're failing there's no way they can be eligible to begin with
