Just think of the most dumbed down version of what McQueary told Joe Pa.

"Sandusky was fooling around with a kid."

Even that is enough to follow up, but Joe Pa didn't.

I agree and if that is what happened he did a horrible thing by neglecting but not unforgivable in my opinion.

This is right. I went to the cap 1 bowl that Penn State won, and at the time I thought seeing Paterno patrol the sideline in person was very cool. Now all I can think is that for years he knew who and what Sandusky was and actively shielded him from police and prosecution.

If he really had that much control, the Board of Supervisors wouldn't have thrown him under the bus so quickly when the scandal went public.

JoePa knew back in the 90s - AND DID NOTHING. Why do you think one of the most respected college assistants retired and never so much as got a sniff of an offer at another job? People act like this was some deep hidden secret that was only recently revealed. bullshite. It was an open secret that many people in the PSU community knew about. JoePa knew. But he was such a vain old man he was more worried about his image than those kid's safety.

Remember when that sanctimonious old turd said he wouldnt retire to leave college football "to the Barry Switzers and Jackie Sherrils of the world"? Last I checked, Barry Switzer didnt have assistant coaches anally raping juvenile males with his complicity.

I can't believe Penn State supporters stood behind Joe Paterno after his involvement was revealed. And they think we are insane in the south?

This would be true in most cases, but it was easy to do when it involved child molestation

JoePa will be remembered the same way Woody Hayes is remembered: for their shameful exits from college football

Bro, JoePa was Penn State. His legend was bigger than the school itself. Don't fool yourself into thinking otherwise. All of central PA cultivated this. Now the place is like a rudderless ship. It's been turned upside down, because their cultish protection of Joe Pa turned out to be evil and disgusting after this conviction.

Turns out dying was a good career move for Paterno, who we've learned was obsessed with protecting his image as The Last Good Man in college sports, the one purist in a world gone wrong, the CEO of the only clean program in America. But the reality is this: Paterno died a fraud, a coward, an enabler to Sandusky. That's his lasting legacy, and it was forever cemented on Friday night in a courtroom in Bellefonte, Pennsylanvania.
this is his legacy, and he did it to himself.I hope the victims are awarded the majority of his estate and a huge sum from PSU after the inevitable civil trial

OK. But he was a HELL of a coach through the 60's 70's and 80's . YOU CAN'T take that away from him.

I guess you're able to look past the enabling of child rape.

The university is much more guilty than Joe Pa in the enabling of child rape. It was ultimately their decision to bury this.

Paterno could have, and should have, put his clout on the line when it was clear this story was being buried. For that, he deserves to be publically hammered and shamed.

I do have a problem when people equate Paterno's actions with Sandusky's actions. Sandusky committed the crime, not Paterno.

A story that has changed and was not immediately brought to him? Paterno did nothing wrong legally. We do not know what was said, what Paterno did or did not do, and who ultimately allowed Sandusky to keep a locker. People are hammering him based on speculation.

Was Paterno a retard? Why wouldn't he have followed up to see what happened to Sandusky?

The comparision to Woody Hayes is dead on. As great a football coach as he was, the reason for his firing will always be front & center in any reference bout him. Joe Pa has now earned this legacy as well. He will never be mentioned without this scandal being a prominent part of the discussion. I accept that his former players & 1000's of admirers will continue to speak highly of him. But what about the victims?

Because he was no longer a supervisor of Gerald Sandusky. You follow your ex employees?
